Were those guys willing to come over to the U.S.? If so, can you prove this? Because you seriously can't expect the best fighter in the world to go to someone else's backyard. It doesn't work that way.
And i wonder, had RJJ beaten Darius, would his legacy be that much greater? I seriously doubt it. My guess is Darius would've been another good name on RJJ's resume and nothing more. What really would've boosted RJJ's legacy would've been his defeat of Hopkins around 2002.
I never accused either man of ducking the other. Just pointed out the obvious - that fights between Roy and those boys didn't happen. Certainly, you must admit that these would have been good fights to make - though the timing was never quite right.
Why is Calzaghe going to the States to fight Roy now? A Roy that is 3-3 in his last 6 fights including 2 brutal KO's. This fight would have had 50,000 in Wales. They had to slash ticket prices in half this week the sales are so bad for the fight. Roy was NEVER going to fight outside of the States. Ever.
Slash ticket prices in half?**** off,I bet you the Garden will be full as expected with all the good promotion the fight is having.
The sales are ABYSMAL for the fight. There have been several articles and blogs about the poor ticket sales. Jones is not a draw and nobody in the States cares about Calzaghe.
Why is Calzaghe willing to fight RJJ in the states? Because RJJ is almost completely shot and Calzaghe knows he's got a great shot at a win. He is picking on a wounded duck. So there is less risk of him losing a close decision. He's also trying to eliminate the notion that he only fought in Europe by taking on these old legends at the tail end of their careers. RJJ said that he was willing to go to Wales plenty of times to fight Calzaghe in the last year or so. He even admitted that he knew his place in boxing right now and that if he wanted Calzaghe, he had to fight on Calzaghe's terms. He also said that back in the days, it would've been stupid for him to go overseas when he had everything to lose. Calzaghe simply CHOSE to fight in the states for the reasons i mentioned above.
You always get guaranteed ticket sales in the UK for a big fight. With Calzaghe after a payday, why go to the US? Could get 90000 at Wembley for Jones - or is Jones too scared that he will get jobbed again? This fight will go to the cards, but won't be close - RJJ ought to have thought of the money and jumped on a plane.
yes because they let people in for free. They have had to do that for several fights recently. The economy is crap right now. Is that too hard for you to understand?
that is Jones usual talk. We both know he is not going to fight anywhere but in the States when it comes down to it.
I don't care about the economy.I wanna see the fight like the rest of people. You are forgetting to say Glass Jaw in you'r posts you handicap:yep
Ticket sales are poor because the fight is a sham, it's what Tarver called "Celebrity Boxing", and most knowledgable fans see this. Roy Jones has done nothing since 2003-4 to merit a fight with the world p4p#3. He is shot to pieces and the fight will be a domination job. It's a terrible fight and shouldn't have been made. I love Roy, I'm ****ing dreading it.
