Jones, he doesn't drain himself and Toney's workrate, range and speed doesn't bother him too much

Here we go again with the mythical weight draining. It becomes incredibly boring after the first hundred times it is mentioned, particularly when it has been proven to be a crock of sh it.

There is an endless supply of Jones fanboys that will acknowledge Jones entered the ring at 190+ throughout most of his Light Heavy career. For Ruiz he was 198. That is a MAXIMUM extra 8 lbs he had to lose more than was the norm for him, for over 12 years.

So can we please come up with another childish excuse?

This fight would've been very interesting to see at this time. Toney's ring IQ and skills at this point in his career were great. His conditioning is what his biggest problem was. I'm almost certain he'd show up as ready as ever should he have got a rematch against Jones at this time. I think Jones ultimately would win a clear decision winning rounds by landing punches and getting out before Toney can counter. but I see Toney making the fight much more competitive at this stage in their careers.

Hiya mate, I'm going to reply to you in the other thread soon.

Tarver beat Roy because he was the better man on the night. But Roy was definitely effected when he first moved back to LHW. It wasn't a crock. We've discussed this before. Roy didn't fight in the 190's at LHW. It was always in the low-mid 180's.

There was nothing normal about having to burn muscle within a period of 2 months. Mackie Shilstone advised him not to cut the weight, as it can effect your immune system. He had to work out in a fasted state to lose the weight in time. Other fighters have also struggled with this, including Chris Byrd and Chad Dawson. And I also believe that it effected Antonio Tarver.

I would have loved to have seen it either at CW or HW in 2003.

I think Roy would have won a decision, using fast flurries to steal the rounds, in an overall uneventful fight.

And I think the crowd would have booed, and Roy would have been criticised afterwards.

Of course none of that may have happened. But that's my take.

I would love to have seen Tyson vs Toney at that point too.

Fukk me mate, I didn't think I'd ever need to tell an Englishman the word should be " affected " not effected.:lol:

Effected means executed, produced, or brought about. For example, The dictatorial regime quickly effected changes to the constitution that restricted the freedom of the people.
On the other hand, affected means made an impact on. It is the past tense of the verb form of affect, which means to impact. For example, Carbon di-oxide emissions affected the environment. Or, sudden loss of weight affected an athletes performance.

I'll do some research into Jones in ring weights. I know Hopkins was 187 in the ring against Pascal, and there is no way Hopkins is bigger in the upper body, arms and legs than Jones.

    Ha!

    Thank you!

    I HATE bad grammar.

    I'm 35 and I should know better.

If I'm not sure on something I'll usually check before I type it. And I know that I have checked before, but I thought that effect was the right word. I was talking to another member a few months ago about common words that are misspelt. And the one word that drives me crazy, is the word 'lose'. Every week I see someone type 'loose'. I just can't understand it.

Back on topic, yes, Roy normally rehydrated by around 7/8 Pounds. And in a number of his fights at LHW, he came under 175 pounds. So he was weighing low in the 180's, around 181/182 pounds, in fights against the likes of Reggie Johnson and Richard Hall.

With Toney not having 2 drain his ass as much as he did in 1994 he would inevitably done much better, but due 2 his higher quality and quantity of opponents and also sparring and also being a bit older he was much further from his prime by 2003 than Jones was off his, which leaves Jones a chance which was still not big enough 4 him 2 take.

Prime vs prime it would have seemed much different than it did in 1994.
