I don't remember that either, he could be right, I have not been able to find anything on it though.

    this is bull****.

Jones signed to fight Rocco, Rocco pulled out of the fight to file a lawwsiut instead. Rocco refused to show up for a presser unless he was called the chanpion instead of an interim champ. The WBC refused, as Jones never vacated his belt, not lost it, nor missed a mandatory. Rocco bitched out, and won a lawsuit instead.

Dm would have meant nothing. Dm dumped belts to avoid fighting good fighters. Jones would have dominated him, and he would have gone down as much as beating Julio Gonzalez or maybe Reggie Johnson.

    Right.

Got check who is in the top ten in picking fights on this site, then get back to me.

I'll got over it for the millionth time, so even the Dm fan base can understand.

Dm wone the WBA/IBF straps from Virgil Hill. The IBF told him he had to fight hard hitting William Guthrie for the title by the end of the year. DM dropped the belt.

The WBA already planned a number one contender fight for September in Aachen Germany to hype Dm's first defense of the WBA belt. The fight was between Lou Del Valle and Eddy Smulders. Weeks before the fight DMdecided he didn't wan't to fight EITHER one, and dumped that belt to keep the WBO trinket.

Why the WBO? The belt the most lightly considered, even more of a joke than a title at the time? Because the WBO was pretty much ran by his promoter and Dm went on to fight such luminaries as Nicky Piper and Darren Zenner, ALL WITHIN SIX months of the Hill fight. He pulled out of the Guthrie fight because he said 6 months was too soon, pulled out of Del Valle because he didn't like that opponent but then fought Zenner and Piper 4 and 6 months later.

THose are the facts. Dm was content to fight in his backyard against left overs where he could get preferntial treatment (See Montell Griffen and Richard Hall) as opposed to fight the best in the division.

    Quick summary:

Rocky didn´t show up for a press conference to promote that fight in New York due of fear of jet lag during his training camp but agreed to a life connection to the press conference. Jones and HBO used this to pull out of the out claiming Rocchigiani wouldn´t show up for the fight, too. :rofl

    Nice excuse, eh?

That is interesting, Roy himself was notorious for not showing up for stuff like that. Or being super late.

You are a Rocco fan, what chances would you have given him against Roy at that time period?

You mean Rocco, who was told ahead of time that he had to show, made the choice to not fight. Rocco pulled out, and went straight to court.

he wanted no part of Jones, he had no intent to fight Jones, much rather win his belt in court rather than the ring.

Rocco is the one that made 31 million dollars out of the whole deal, maybe that was his plan.:huh

Maybe. That would be smart. He fights and loses badly to Jones, he gets 3 million (I think that was it) and his career over. He wins in court (because the WBC DID **** up) he gets 31 million and doesn't have to fight. Brilliant move monetarily.
