Glaring difference in handspeed, and Golovkin gets hit too easily. Roy at 160 had serious pop in his punches. I don't see Gennady being able to pressure Roy anywhere near as well as some seem to think. He'd be leery of getting hit with counters. Jones by decision. In time, that opinion may change...depends on how Golovkin progresses.
Hagler, Robinson, Leonard, and Hearns all fought better fighters at 160 than Roy did. His only significant win was Hopkins. That is his whole 160 resume. The other guys not only fought but beat better competition than Jones did at 160. I really have a hard time understanding how a boxing fan who knows his history could post such.
The FACT of the matter is, RUIZ LANDED FLUSH ON JONES AND ROY KEPT COMING. I *may* have given Ruiz all of ONE round in the fight - and that might be generous. Roy goes up through the divisions - laying waste in his wake. Triple Duck, OTOH, has made a career of beating up on jr middles - and we're supposed to believe he KO's Roy? Stop smoking the crack. Call me when Triple Duck signs the contract to fight someone with a pulse...
I don't think anyone disputes the fact that Jones won every round but 1 or 2. That isn't what I was saying. The fight was a sparring session with Jones just pot shotting from the outside because Nady strangely did not let Ruiz use his illegal tactics like he was allowed to in every single other fight he was in. Lets not pretend that Jones was coming at Ruiz he wasn't. He was content to throw a low number of punches. This was not some epic fight. In no way did Ruiz land a meaningful punch on Jones he wasn't an outside fighter he was a mauler that threw one punch then looked to hold, clinch, grab, wrestle, or fake low blows. Basically how the current version of Hopkins fights. Nobody is debating Jones won and lets not pretend like this was an all action war. It wasn't.
I go second phase you see , its not just who he beat , but who did the beaten beat?? GGG's opponents all have pretty good records but in reality non of them and I mean none of them would beat Sugar Boy Malinga who Roy starched in 6 rounds. Roy moved up because he was always gunning for true greatness and his direction was classic , 160 , 175 , Heavy. He didnt even stay at 168 for long really.
Fighters that are seeking true greatness want to be THE champion. Roy was not THE champion at Middleweight, Super Middleweight, or Heavyweight. I am well aware he didn't stay at 168 long there is a good reason for that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ynKvpgrD8c Ruiz lands a big right hand on Jones with 27 seconds left in the first round. Jones then proceeds to stand and trade with Ruiz. Roy Jones has the cojones to first, get in the ring with a heavyweight title holder, and to stand and trade punches with him. Golovkin, OTOH, seems only interested in proving he's the best jr middleweight on Earth and goes into hiding anytime someone mentions Andre Ward's name. The ONLY thing Golovkin has in common with a heavyweight is speed. Jones would absolutely positively clown the living **** out of SLOW ass wide punching front foot heavy Golovkin. Put down the crack pipe.
RJJ would beat him easily. GGG has poor defence and average handspeed with passable footwork. GGG only lands maybe 5 punches before he finds his place on the canvas.
He unlike Jones hasn't skedaddled off to another division before becoming champion. He is well on his way to becoming THE Middleweight Champion first.
Lol. This has to be some of the dumbest **** I've seen on this forum - and that's saying a LOT. So, I guess in your twisted reality, Roy Jones RAN away from 160 to face James fvcking Toney @ 168? Is that the logic you're using, Einstein? LOL...
