Patterson by sudden KO. Fight even up to ending. RJJ is open to be hit, and gets careless via a Patterson fast left hook.
Oh my gosh, another one these fantasy matches. Ruiz was tailor made for RJJ's 'bold quest' for the 'HW' title, a title held by several others at the time...or was it 10-15 others? Eras aside Floyd might let it go for awhile with his passivity but the combos would come when Roy decides to get aggressive (big mistake Roy) and that big Floyd left hook comes crashing home. To be fair, a Patterson UD not out of the question; but probably worse. Sidebar: How about Quarry vs. RJJ at Heavy? Roy dangling on the ropes, half in-half out, out to lunch? Why does everyone try to elevate RJJ above his great career based on the Ruiz bout?
@jowcol, I agree with the passivity, for maybe 3 or 4 rounds, but I would suspect that the fight would end suddenly for Roy, and just as conclusively as Floyd's bout with Henry Cooper...a very emphatic, 10 count (or more) KNOCKOUT for Floyd Patterson.
Hey Red! You've got Patterson-Cooper on tape I'm sure. We've never seen the 2nd Folley-Cooper fight (don't think it's available and...I've seen the first one. IMO 'enry came on late to cop a deserved decision) but have you ever seen anyone put Henry into a puddle like Floyd did?? With a right hand at the end of all things? And then proceeded to go over and comfort Henry (on the floor) after the stoppage...our beloved Floyd.
Nosir, I haven't,..I was watching that fight on tv with my dad (a big fan of Floyd's) and we were as impressed as could be. Floyd just crushed Cooper...and it's a fight I love to revisit on You Tube...a major highlight reel showing by our guy. The sportsmanship he showed, plus his well spoken (loved Floyd's speaking voice) and humble demeanor was something that my dad ALWAYS commented on...and he despised the loudmouthed, arrogant boastful displays put on by other fighters. I have always agreed and felt the same way.
