Come fight night he weighed 199 lbs against Ruiz and 185 lbs against Tarver, so thats 14 lbs. Tarver himself dropped from 220 filming Rocky 6 to 187 (before boiling down to 175 lbs) to fight Bernard Hopkins and he waas sluggish for his fight with Hopkins but his performance improved in his succesive fights .

I should of said he got down to 187, then drained himself down to 175 lbs.

He should have went for a Cruiser weight title, that would have been impressive.

Jones fight night weights were: 199 for Ruiz, 185 for Tarver I, 180 for Tarver II, 187 for Tarver III. As a guess I think he was around the low 180's against Tito.
So I dont think it was just the weight loss because as you can see he kept dropping and putting on weight after his fight with Ruiz. He looked fine to me during the first round with Tarver in their rematch. It was after he got Koed that things really went to hell imo.

Its not like he was just coming back down from heavyweight in the second tarver fight, so i dont buy that excuse... i could see it for the first one, but not the second, plus the guy looked spectacular for the first round, dominating it in a fashion he didnt do throughout all the first fight..... then tarver cought him flush and the rest is history. The third fight was just.... :-( Roy could have won that....

He looked spectacular during round 5 in Tarver III, maybe its just an age thing.

Round 5 was ok, but he wasn't the Jones of old. He had the guy hurt in that round and didn't do anything.

What I found amazing in that fight, was how Jones didn't get KO'd by that BIG left or right Tarver hit him with that hurt him pretty good, but he was able to stay up defend himself and then come back within the same round. The punch looked like it had more on it then the one that TKO'd him in the 2nd fight. I, to this day, do not KNOW how he didn't get KO'd, or at least knocked down by that punch. Prime Jones would have never been caught by those punches. Tarver isn't even that fast.

Tarver hit Jones with a Right Hook in the 11th round which badly hurt Jones I dont think it was flush also it was from his jab/right arm.

I think it was the ko in Tarver II that messed Jones up mentally, his confidence was gone and since then he has been afraid of getting koed. Its hard to commit yourself to finish an opponent if you think you may get koed yourself.

Jones has been caught flush in the past by some slow hitters as well, Lou deValle, Montell Griffin even Toney caught him with some shots. He never learned his fundamentals so really it was only a matter of time before he got caught flush.

The 2nd fight pretty much destroyed him. But the weight did have its affect. He may have won the first fight, but he looked horrible. His reflexes took a nose dive.

Griffin and Toney are faster than Tarver. Against DeValle, he was doing something really stupid, that sort of thing was completely his fault.

The punch in the 3rd fight wasn't a glancing blow lol.
