Best for a long time, but he ought to have been winning by kayo - Trinidad was shot and way over his optimum weight.
He looked fairly good - his defence (turtle shell) worked very well and Trinidad couldn't get many meaningful punches in...... his handspeed was good, but his workrate was downright terrible (something like 20-30 punches a round), and sometimes you wondered if he was just lazy or couldn't do more. He looked best since Tarver III, but let's not forget his opponent was inactive for 2,5 years and 15 pounds lighter naturally, who has always been clueless against (bigger) skilled boxers.
I just didn't view it like this at all. I thought Jones looked considerably better in the Hanshaw fight. You have to consider: Felix Trinidad hadn't fought in 3 years, hadn't won a fight in 4 years. When you're in your mid-30s, that's a huge gap. He was fighting 10lbs higher than he'd ever fought before, and 23lbs higher than his natural fighting weight. And then consider the fight itself. Most people seem to disagree, but I thought it was basically a training bout. It was slow, and devoid of any sustained aggressive action. They both looked like they were shot, as far as being top-class professional boxers IMO. Compare that to the Hanshaw fight, where Hanshaw actually wanted to win and came forward, and forced Jones to fight off the ropes and lash out to get him off. Jones looked better in that one. I'm not going to argue about it, I just thought the Jones v Trinidad fight was of a poor standard, and didn't show either man in a good light.
Hard to tell. In my humble opinion, I think Roy held back against Tito. He took Tito's shots to the head well (the few that got through), and wasn't fazed by Tito's body punches (which was expected). His offense was good, but like I said it seemed as if he was holding back. He could've gotten Tito outta there after the first knock down.
So is Oscar going to do the same thing against Manny Pacquaio?...... I guess that fight is VERY legitimateatsch
