RJJ wining HW belt is as if Floyd wins 160 or 168 belt??

This comparison works for me..

If Mayweather were to move up and beat Ward, that would be like Roy beating Lennox, would and would have earned both the GOAT status in my book.

We can't forget either that Roy immediately dropped back down and beat the best LHW in the world after winning a HW belt.. So Mayweather would have to beat Froch and then move back down and fight someone prime and pissed off in his next fight.

 

Exactly. They have awkward styles that they make work for them that made them world-level.

Sometimes I question the intelligence of even the top 20% of frequent posters on this site.

 

Going up from 154 to 201lbs is 47lbs. So Floyd would have to go up, technically to Cruiserweight, which is from 176 to 199. But practically, 175 would be a good enough copy of Roy's feat.

If Floyd actually wants to pull that off without a loss and no catchweight, he'd have to fight the following fighters in each weight class.

160: Felix Sturm for some vacant tile.
168: Robert Stieglitz for his WBO title.
175: Beibut Shumenov for his WBA title.

Of course this is impossible for some one of Floyd's size [150lbs], height [5' 8"], and where he started [130]. But Floyd jumping from 130 to 175 would be an even bigger feat than what Roy did, and definitely the biggest feat in boxing history, despite being similar pounds jumped. But of course, boxing is not science fiction, so this will not happen. Not even with all the PED's in the world.

I respect your opinion, but I don't agree.

Roy always said he'd go out on top, and he wouldn't hang around til he got beat. But when you're young and you're winning, you can say things like that. Roy's body is now 44, but mentally he feels 25.

Floyd could retire undefeated with his Showtime contract.

But even if he does, he's going to miss it, and if he's still in shape and he feels good about himself, he'll be enticed back in my opinion. He craves the money and attention.

A fighter always thinks he's got one more left in him.

Roy's in a terrible predicament.

He won't allow himself to go out on a loss, but if he wins, it encourages him to fight again. It's a vicious circle.

 

Yes I agree that if an un ranked HW beat that version of Ruiz, then it wouldn't have been as meaningful. But that's because that guy would have been a HW himself.

Roy wasn't a HW.

The victory was impressive, because Roy moved up from 175 and dominated a ranked guy who'd beaten guys like Holyfield, who fair enough was way past his best, but who wasn't completely shot.

People like to label Ruiz as garbage. But he wasn't. He was boring with a horrible style, but he was effective.

Which ever way look at it, it was a great win.

You also have to factor in that Roy had fought nearly 50 times, he was 34, and none of the current 168 and 175 guys look as though they're going to move up and have a go.

 

People forget how good Holyfield look in the Lewis rematch, then losing to Ruiz shortly after.

Good post. Floyd will never beat a top 160 lb'er. Sergio's
not the champ anymore. Floyd would have to beat GGG
in the next 12 months for me to compare that to Roy's
win over Ruiz. RJJ will defintely go down as the greater
fighter than Floyd unless floyd finally takes risks and wins
in those fights. Anyone who isn't a ***** knows Roy is
the more esteemed fighter.
