Eligio is ducking in front of Mendy, blocking his jabs, and then winging a bolo hook up and dinging him on the side of the skull, headhunting from a crouch with big heavy pot shots. Eligio is throwing light hooking flurries all over the available space of Mendy's forehead (over and beside his gloves) while keeping just clear of Mendy's jabs and short overhand rights at medium-long range. Mendy's best successes come when Eligio lingers too long in the pocket and Mendy can find him more readily with body-head combos, but these moments are few and far between.

Round 4

Eligio is walking into Mendy's jabs and backing out with no riposte. Mendy feinting and then pulling trigger on some lead right uppercuts walking forward. Mendy starting to get into a rhythm, the counter-puncher working against type by pressing the action. Eligio is still rattling off some multiple-touch flurries on the head, but Mendy is shaking them off and keeping a stiff jab fixed on Eligio's head, while squaring up in front of him and lining him up for big hooks & looping rights circumventing his guard. Hooking flurry by Eligio late, attempting to steal the round, but little of note lands.

Round 5

Eligio is throwing uppercuts on the body and then coming up for air hooking with both hands. Mendy is held in a thrall, just pushing jabs over the nape of Eligio's neck. Eligio wailing on the body now, squatting low and putting extra torque on each pendulous shot with his chin tucked in and eyes facing the floor. Mendy just staying in a shell, pawing out some jabs. Eligio ducks in and keeps tattooing Mendy's torso. Mendy lands a combination of chopping short counters but Eligio weaves his way through and keeps pelting away downstairs.

10-9 Eligio, most dominant round of the fight although Mendy did appear to hurt Eligio slightly in the middle.

I can definitely see why, he was busier and landed more, but a lot of those pit-pat flurries to me didn't seem to be landing all that cleanly.

 

This soiree (officially titled "No Limit IX") thus far is 2/2. Really high quality Thursday afternoon boxing.

 

Round 6

Eligio is now actually putting Mendy on the backfoot, and then giving him just enough space to have the illusion of seizing momentum before dropping a level and tearing up his body with side-winding horizontal kitana slashes. Mendy attempting to rope out counter 1-2s but Eligio is smothering him, spoiling his boxing with his arms gunking up the works and clanging against Mendy's. Really nice body work by Eligio.

Round 7

Eligio is diving in with a 1-2 downstairs and then snapping upright with a left hook on the jaw. Mendy is being hustled. Mendy taking short jittery baby steps in reverse and squeezing his arms together over his chest, fists over his nose, peeling off jabs, looking very uncomfortable. Desperate overhand right by Mendy backing up as Eligio continues to harry and peck at him with in and out surges.

Round 8

Eligio is tiring a little, fluttering the jab out near Mendy's face but falling short or hitting glove. Mendy picking his spots with the jab and then spiraling in on Eligio with a short uppercut. Hooking flurries by Eligio, slower now than before, ducked or dodged with a backward step or shifting of weight to another foot rather easily by Mendy. Eligio is blocking the heavy 1-2 from Mendy, then flicking out 4-5 straight punches of his own, very weak, all blocked. Mendy is hunting with the right hand on the front-foot now, straight leads & uppercuts. Eligio is jabbing with Mendy, but leaves himself open for a quick sneaky left hook on the body while contenting himself with having traded one for one. NICE three-piece by Mendy.
