In a report Freddie Roach has budged on his demand to make Cotto drop down to 143. Here's text of the report:

Freddie Roach, trainer of Manny Pacquiao, has budged on his demand of making Miguel Cotto drop down to 143-pounds for a fight with Manny Pacquiao on November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Several days ago, Roach told media members that 143 was the weight he wanted the fight to take place. Cotto's nutritionist told Top Rank's Bob Arum that Miguel could only get down, in safe fashion, to a weight of 144-145 at most.

Arum recently called Roach, the two spoke about the fight and 145 appears to be the target weight for the bout.

"Arum called me and I told that I have any problems with the fight being at 145 pounds. In fact I don't care if Cotto wants to weigh 200 pounds," Roach told Primera Hora. "I trust my fighter, so I very little about the weight issues. I have not talked to Manny, who will make the final decision. He is a big man who makes his own decisions. All I can do is give it my recommendation."

One recommendation is for Pacquiao to make more money than in his previous fight with Ricky Hatton in May. Pacquiao is said to have made around $12 million for that bout.

"Obviously we want to see Manny get paid higher than in the previous fight. There is no reason to step back in terms of money, so those details will be discussed," said Roach.

Gabriel Peñagarícano, the legal adviser to Cotto, told the paper that a lot of things need to be agreed upon before the deal is closed.

"I'm not surprised that [Roach] has accepted the weight of 145 pounds, but that is only one of several items that will be discussed and it's taken at least two weeks to complete. There are a list of issues are being discussed."

It looks this fight is almost a done deal. Floyd must be feeling sorry that he did go directly to Pacquiao to make this fight.

I think Floyd has done the smart thing (although I doubt it was intentional, maybe "fell" into the right path is more appropriate), he will beat JMM (as much of a fan as I am of JMM it's going to happen) and then only have to face the winner of Cotto/Pac Man to prove he is the best rather then the both of them.

I still think Arum will try to fuk Floyd just because, but the fans will prevail on this one if Pac and Floyd win. We'll find out who the real lying ******* is if both win, and the fight isn't made.

I hope all the negociations go smoothly and the fight does happen, however, IMHO team Pac is going to try to add a clause in the contract where it limits the amount of weight Cotto can gain from friday till fight night. That wouldnt be good for Cotto because weight is what he wants due to the fact that he will never be as fast as Pacquiao so he needs to come in at another angle to get some advantage.

I just don't see the point. It's a welterweight title fight. Why not have it at 147. All Roach is doing here is giving pac haters and Cotto fans an excuse to discredit the win if pac pulls it off.

Why not make the fight at 147 then so Pac has the opportunity of picking up another belt in a higher weight class?
Because they think tht Cotto will be too healthy at 147. In Roach's world, it's better to weaken a guy a bit, and then all Manny has to do is maybe lose a little and bulk up.

If Pac wins in dominating style, his victory will be discredited. Beat him at 147 and no excuses can be made. Cotto came in at 146 for his last fight, im not sure how much difference an extra pund will make. IMO there's no logical reason to make the fight at 145

If Roach doesn't care about the weight than why won't he allow the fight to be at 147?
That is the million dollar question lol...

hmm says... as Arum intended, most likely the belt will be on the line.. 145 is more than reasonable and viable for the title.
