No....Roach flat out said Mosely was "too good" for Manny, after the Marg fight. Before the Margarito vs SSM fight, he said taking on Margarito would be too big a step for Manny. But, during that same interview...he said w/o hesitation, they would definitely fight Cotto. Notice Cotto had just been beaten down by Margarito. Now they are taking on Margarito, who was beaten down by SSM, had his 'weapons' removed, and looked like a journeyman in his last outing.

After the Marg v Shane fight, Roach ranked SSM AHEAD of Cotto, in terms of opposition.

Basically...he felt SSM was "too good"...period. NOTHING Freddie said indicated his selection of Cotto had anything to do with Cotto edging SSM out in 2006.
