Stepping up in weight is dangerous and there is no such things as cherry picking guys like Cotto, Clottey or Margarito when your coming from 106lbs. Those 3 fights are tougher than Floyd's career run 5 times.
*******s like to act like all of Pac's last wins were huge upsets. Pac hasnt been an underdog on the betting lines since the DLH fight. Hatton, Clottey, Cotto he was expected to win and he is expected to beat Margo.
So the bookies is what you go on? Silly ******. Try being a fan and use a well informed opinion rather than stating betting odds like a plank of wood.
here's the main reason why it was Cotto and not Shane. The minute that Cotto re-signed with TR, it was rumored that a fight with Pac was one of the pre-condition. Pac not fighting Shane was about business. ...also, Freddie does not and has never choosen or negotiate who Pac should fight.
OMG, that would mean Roach is cherrypicking Floyd. *****s won't agree to that. They'll say Roach is just **** talking again.
And now for fans of non-Pacweather boxing, a tribute to Smokin' Joe Frazier, as posted by kirk. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFxiT5XRZ7I[/ame]
Authour of this thread Still waiting........ On the opposite side the claim that the bookies had Oscar the favourite against Manny is myopic. The guy had not been near 147 in 8 years and rehydrated 2 pounds after actually weighing in 2 under. A poster child for bulimia. Any bookie who follows the sport and put this out there should be publicly flogged.
Sure Kevin. Manny has risen from the lower ranks. We all know that. He has been steamrolling greats or even legends in their own right such as Sasakul, Ledwaba, Oscar Larios, Barerra etc in the lower weights. Then I remember even a thread on how an asian can gain so much weight as questions arise from his being suspected as a steroid cheat. But that is another thing. Going back to your question, probably they would not have been able to meet with such big names because of the weight disparity THEN. But you know when you compare the opposition of Manny to that of Floyd's, it shows that Floyd has never ducked and has taken all comers and at their primes. After Floyd kills them, the fighter becomes "shot" or "had no chance in the first place". Look at the great Gatti. He has been said to be the next legend who was supposed to beat Floyd and we know what happened there. Look at Carlos "The Snake" Baldomir, a very skilled fighter who was touted too as the next best thing to dethrone Floyd and he got schooled. Look at Ricky Hatton who fought at his best condition and was undefeated at the time they faced. Look Juan Marquez who knocked out the legendary Casamayor and the hungry young lion Juan Diaz and who was at his fighting prime and P4P#2 at the time he faced Floyd. Can numbers lie Kevin? :good
Not going to get into the Manny ped thing either. I see your point but mine is Manny could not have possibly met those guys you mentioned at their prime. It was simply physically impossible based on where each man was. Floyd became a cheery picker to if we are to be honest with ourselves. I think the evidence once he left 130/135 is pretty clear. I'm not sure of anyone who actually picked Baldomir to have a chance. He somehow lucked out against a guy who could not focus on a light show. Marquez had no business being above 140 let alone a silly catch weight fight against Floyd. This was a battle of two incredible counter punchers but the separation in ability could almost be plotted on a graph. This is an era of "risk and reward" and both Manny and Floyd are guilty of it in their own way. Its a converse one though. In era's gone by the reward comes after the risk is taken. Today [they] evaluate the reward first. Legacy has nothing to do with it. The fab 4 in Hagler. Leonard. Duran and Hearns all wanted to fight each other. Polar opposite today. Thanks for the response.
Yes, Freddie cherry picked Floyd and.... ...Floyd is cherry picking Khan! Freddie knew Pac can beat Floyd. :bbb
Pac and Floyd have the right to so-called "cherry pick". They both have fought the hard fights, and want tough fights with big paydays...
