    I agree.

But Khan is talked about as being a potential opponent for the likes of Floyd Mayweather (a fight that might still happen) - and it's ridiculous.

There's nothing wrong with being a British or European champion, or a beltholder.... he just isn't elite.

Imagine him in the 80's, if he'd ever managed to manoeuvre himself into a top 5 spot.... Hearns, Leonard, Duran... I think he'd feint at the weigh-in at the thought of facing those guys later the same day.

Roach throwing his toys out the pram. He was telling us how there's nothing wrong with khans chin & it was making 135lbs that was weakening him. Keep him away from punchers? Lol.. Roach ok'd Maidana.

Khan has had advantages too in some of his harder challenges
-Maidana; far quicker of hand and foot
    -Garcia; longer reach

Kuniaki Shibata had a similar problem to Khan. When hit he'd fire back. Unlike Khan his movement was good enough that if he really needed to get out of there he could, rather than staggering around like a drunk and getting knocked down with a cuffing shot to the bonce.

I agree with the general sentiment of your post though. He can still be succesfull, in a business sense, but in a sporting sense? No, he needs to fool casuals into buying fights with safe but marketable opposition and not take the stiffest tests from now on.

Yes, and it clearly told him a lot about Khan's dreadful chin.

I think the question is "what do we call successful these days"

the days of Leonard, Duran etc are over.

I dont think there is ANYONE in this era we can compare to them, the fact that people are getting so over-excited about guys like Andre Ward speaks volumes imo.

Fighters that once would have been decent to good, are now worshiped as gods

This is a bit too harsh IMO.

Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say he could make 140 on the day.

Hatcher, Mamby, Haley, Costello, might all be a bit too much. Maybe they pick on a post-Pryor II version of Arguello for a 'name win'....yeah, I don't think he does brilliantly against any of them either, not sparked in the 1st against all of 'em mind you.

A bit later? Hamada, Uncle Rog' both starch him, although Amir might be able to beat Hamada if he runs like **** like he did for a few rounds against Maidana for the whole fight. I'm not even sure he'd win the battle of the terrible chins with Arredondo, although he's quicker so if he doesn't give Rene chance to settle than he could, not sure he was even stopped by a puncher of Amir's calibre though.

Even Floyd would **** himself at the weigh-in

Not 'even' Floyd as if he's some kind of steel-nerved warrior ;)

Mayweather wouldn't make the weigh-in for any of these fights...okay he'd probably face the 'shot' version of Duran that was offered up to Davey Moore as a 'name' opponent :hey

Can you blame Roach for having a little dig after Khan's comments about him and Pac not having good defence-indirectly blaming Roach?

I'd like to give Floyd the benefit of the doubt and say that he's a victim of his particular era.

He'd not be able to be who he is without beating the likes of Arguello, Pryor and Leonard, that he can be now... where he's fought some good fighters, some very good ones but no great ones.

Marquez is probably the best fighter (both in terms of ability at the time and ATG standing) that he's ever fought.... however Marquez was significantly out-sized and the stylistic matchup favoured Floyd in a big way.

Floyd vs Pac, early 2010 was the fight.... Pac still had the fire, which has since been blunted by 'let's be nice' fights like Clottey and Shane, whilst Floyd had dominated Marquez in bs return.

Shame it never happened, now it's pointless.

Bring on retirement for Khan. That would be the most one sided beatdown in history.

    Completely agee.
He lacks some very basic fundementals, once which Ive seen Roach practicing with him over and over and over, and as soon as he gets in the ring, thinks his speed will take care of everything.
But at the championship level, fighters have worked him out, Maidana looked like he'd be stopped early but came back to make it a very competitive fight, Petersen, likewise weathered the early flurries to dominate Khan, Garcia looked like a complete mismatch early, then he started to get closer and closer then boom.
He's done, and changing the trainer will make no positive difference, he'll get knocked out again within a few fights.
