Agreed. A vacant belt against someone who got caught with plaster, wasn't even granted a license until a while before the fight, not rated at 154, and hadn't look dominant in a long time. Plus Pac never even defended the belt.

Floyd has 3 fights a JR Middle. All 3 were against Champs who were rated #1 at the time.

Canelo said 150, Floyd gave him 152.

 

Sure, but the thing is that if Floyd had been on the level with wanting his opponent 'comfortable' he had just made it at the full 154.
But we all know that part is bull, because he always wants every single advantage and even believes he's entitled to it.

 

Given the paucity of challenging fights out there for Floyd, I could see this happening. The main selling points would be the relative competitiveness of the first fight and the opportunity for Floyd to become the linear Middleweight champion (which would be amazing).

They could do this at 157/158 and it would garner a lot of interest; much more than the likes of Guerrero and Maidana anyway.

 

Cotto will be in a Coffin after the Martinez fight.:-(

CW drastically raises the probability of a bad match though.

There are enough weight classes now that anyone should be able to fit solidly into one of them.

If two fighters want a contract weight, fine. Thats their business. That does not mean that the sanctioning orgs should endorse it. Fighters are free to think and act on their own behalf. The boxing orgs should keep the fans in mind.

No one is arguing that. However, with weigh ins taking place the day before the fight, there is often significant differences in the weights of fighters when they enter the ring. The CW fights occur when people from different divisions are fighting eachother. If you're going up in weight and you don't cut much weight and your opponent does, you could be at a serious weight disadvantage on the day of the fight. That can be evened out by having the other guy drain himself a bit more to make weight. Again, if you're a fighter and you don't want to cut more weight, simply decline to agree to a CW.

They are keeping the fans in mind. The rules in no way prohibit a CW. They could put that into effect, but that would only serve to deny the fans of some inter divsion matches. Guys will be less willing to up a full weight class or more. The guys from the heavier weight class will not want to come down a full weight class or more.

 

Cotto would be shut out against PBF in a rematch PBF is back with his father and he has him using more movement and using his defense more. PBF would stay on the outsisde limit his time on the inside and pick Cotto apart. Cotto can't beat PBF and would lose even worse in the rematch.

Martinez will really be up against it in MSG against Cotto. After the way Cotto demanded to be announced last & enter the ring Last even though Martinez is champion. The way we KNOW Cotto will have every advantage in MSG he may as well be fighting in San Juan. Look at Cotto-Margarito II when the crooked doc saved Cotto from quitting AGAIN!!!!!
How Cotto keeps getting title fights amazes me He's had one win against a club fighter, and the robbery in Margaritp II, every other fighter has kicked his ass
