Does anyone really want floyd getting his hands on the lineal title? all that means is that another lineal Middleweight champ refuses to fight golovkin. Floyd shouldn't fight for the middleweight title as he simply doesn't belong there and won't defend against legit 160'ers (not because he's 'ducking' but because it would be a ridiculous natural size disadvantage)

Not at all. I just think Mayweather could come in at his normal weight and beat Cotto at 160. Pac probably could also.

Not talking about prohibiting matches, but rather not awarding titles. If we got fewer mismatches, fine.

As far as CW being catalyst for bad fights, thats obvious. The purpose is to drain. 2-4 pounds of actual body mass means almost nothing. so why is it such a big deal? Why do some A-sides insist on it when they can in the first place? Because draining another 2 pounds of water from a body that doesnt want to dehydrate any further is extremely damaging thats why.

Weight ceilings are one thing. But the purpose of the draining is to get the other guy to kill himself trying to make weight. If it is successful, you get a fight that noone should pay for period. Its a faulty premise on which to base a fight from the start.

Many times, the title is what draws a fighter to a match. A guy might be intrigued by a challenge from a title holder from a higher division, but might feel that the weight difference is too much. Eliminating CWs will make that bout less likely.

They do it because they want to decrease the weight disadvantage they will be at by fighting a larger fighter.

CW fights have been around from the early stages of the sport's history. Do you have any solid evidence the CWs give an unfair advatage to the smaller fighter? By your logic, the large of majority of the time there is a CW fight, the smaller guy should win. I'm not sure if that's true.

Nobody wants that to happen more than Floyd. He would take that fight at 160 too. He would beat Cotto easier, it would do major numbers and he'd get a belt at MW... Problem is, Cotto ain't winnin against Sergio. A 60% Sergio beats the shicksa outta Cotto.

Well earlier in the sports history there was also a lot fewer weight divisions.

They do it because they can, and think it will give an advantage. Seeking advantage in the overall contract is not limited to weight. The way you word it, it sounds like people are just doing it to "even the playing field". In reality, many A-sides, but not all, do any and everything they can to get an advantage before the fight even starts.

While it does seem like the weight drained guy loses more often of late, its something thats hard to get good data on - especially if you control for other factors, which is difficult in a sport. So in the best case, it is very difficult to prove either way.

But the premise is easy to get a bead on - it puts the performance and outcome of the fight in more jeopardy. It moves more of the fight from skills inside the ring, to factors outside the ring. It makes it harder for fans to tell if it is a fight worth spending money on.

I dont see how anyone could reasonably argue that forcing a harder drain on someone does not make it more likely that they will be unable to put on a respectable performance. What is relatively difficult to pin down, is the degree. Because sometimes people do pull off the extra cut.

Mayweather-Cotto 2 (if he wins, cant see it if Cotto loses) or Cotto-Canelo next.

You cant hate on Roach though. He feels hes already made Cotto better. He thinks he has the right gameplan and if it was somehow 160 (or a catch weight) and Cotto tried to bully like Maidana (which he kinda of can and did a lttle in his fight with Mayweather) Then Roach sees an oppurtuinty to knock down the king.

    First June 7th!

Theres plenty of fighters that moved up that didnt belong in that weight class but MOney, Chance for history, not many options in your own weght class make people move up.

Floyd fighting and winning the MW crown is really the last thing he could to help his legacy. Nobody else fighting now can do much to help it. hes Between 20-30 but winning the MW Crown would get him in the top 15-20 if u ask me.

Listen cotto took 4-5 rds off floyd with that bum ass coach Pedro Diaz. He was not conditioned properly, didnt throw body shots, and wasnt smart with his combos.

He'll be riding super high after martinez (IF he wins).

    I like cotto's chances.

After seeing maidana's caveman pressure and bullsh*it jab overcome mayweather ..he'll have no self doubt.

If Floyd is only 150 or less doesn't Canelo still have the weight advantage?

Looking forward to seeing Sergio starch Cotto and put an end to Floyd's dream of frauding his way to a MW title.

Because just like Floyd ducked Sergio at 154, theres no way Floyd will face a healthy Martinez at 160. A healthy Martinez beats anyone except maybe Golovkin at either weight, as Cotto is about to find out. Cotto better hope Martinez knee is totally gone because its his only shot, he is just nowhere close to Sergio's level.

Canelo was almost hospitalized from the weight drain, which is why the only credit Floyd will ever get from that win is for having a good negotiating team. If Floyd could have won at 154, it would have been fought at 154.

when henry armstrong fought ceferino garcia for the welterweight title...he weighed 134lbs.

floyd doesn't need to weight 155.

Floyd will never fight anyone at 160 unless it's an easy fight. If it's Cotto, Martinez, etc he will demand a catch weight of like 156.
