So he dehydrated down to 153 to go back up to 166? I've always been a Cotto fan but this whole pathetic circus has me rooting for Geale in this fight. There's a suggestion that Cotto came in under 154 to influence the weight agreement for the Canelo fight. Either way that's gonna be for the MW title at probably 155 or 156 so I don't see the point in that...
I think Roach said that to bluff, because Roach is very good at that, the last two fights, Cotto is coming in low, 156 for Martinez and 153 for this dude....
The fight is meant to be for the 160 pound limit WBC middleweight title and instead the pre-match has been an absolute farce about whether the challenger can starve himself down to 157 pounds and how far under the limit the reigning champion comes in at. You chose the right word to describe it - CIRCUS
Can't fully blame Cotto. The conditions of the sport foster these kinds of things. The sanctioning bodies need to step in and regulate weigh-in discrepancies, particularily when involving title fights. Edit: "Can' to "Can't"
You don't have to be on the weight limit to fight for the title, are you re****ed? 155-160 and everything inbetween is MW.
The WBC nor Cotto's team gave Geale any penalty for weighing 160. Fact is the man could of weighed 160 if he wanted to but didn't because he's comfortable making that weight.
Geale has been 159 for his last few fights, so you would think, not being a fighter, that it ought to be no problem but 154-160 is the middleweight range, it's fine margins, just listen to Cotto himself; When asked who was his hardest fight, Cotto responded immediately, "Mayweather." he went on to say that had he been in the kind of shape against Manny, that he was against Floyd, it "would have been a different fight..." " coming in at 145lbs...You don't feel it so much when training...but come fight night, you feel it in the ring."
Just to clarify, are you suggesting that Geale could have weighed in at 160 rather than the alledged stipulated 157 catchweight that he indeed obliged?
He looked the same as he did in the GGG weigh in. Don't believe me? Then go look for yourself. You're just caught in this Cotto hate that you can't see things for yourself.
Yes, he could of and the belt would still be on the line. Nothing was stopping him except a bluff from Roach claiming that Cotto would fight a sparring partner if Geale didn't make weight.
