Great post. I have to agree with Freddy. If you can't economically bounce at angles, then taking efficient steps laterally is a much better tactic to use. He can always shuffle away when he needs to, but being patient with his distance will help his timing and defense.

 

I hope he isn't as flat footed as Roy was against Pawel in his last fight.

(i feel bad now. i shouldn't have typed this).

 

Actually, he specifically said he wants Kahn to fight more flat-footed.

I've been having doubts about Roach for a long time, but this takes the cake.
If you want to be more controlled, just work on losing the crazy movements. If you want more power in the punches, work on planting the back foot, but don't simply "fight more flat-footed." !

I think maybe Freddie earned his reputation 2 ways:

1: Early on he was lucky enough to be paired with a massively aggressive fighter would would have become champion no matter WHO trained him.

#2: Lots of cheating with PEDs.

 

Roach is changing **** up because Khan has proven that he can't jump in and out effectively like Manny Pacquiao. That's due to Khan being not as athletically gifted and P a kistani.

Didnt watch but u cant change Khans style. Its too late for that. If he sits down on his shots and hangs in the pocket he will get clipped and hurt and will resort back to his holding, pushing and running/hopping around. Team Khan picked a terrible time to change their style. Its game over!

 

roach better find a way to change khan's china chin as well while he's at it.....

 

I agree Khan should sit down more on his punches. He often finds himself in trouble bouncing around/getting caught off balance whilst on the retreat.

Is it impossible with his speed and good jab that he could operate in a similar vein to an older Ali or SRL? Though retaining speed, they would at times plant their feet and remind the opponent they had some power and did some damage.

He has proved to me that he can take a decent punch and by that I do not in anyway mean that its concrete but I've seen him hit a fair few times now since he was knocked out and so far he has managed to not get knocked out/down again.

Hurting your opponent will help keep him off you.

Standing still does mean he runs the risk of being hit more. He's being hit anyway and with his current style I can see him losing again.

If Khan planted his feet and threw a stiff combo he would do damage. Gain outweighs the risk to me.
