hopkins knows he lost. he's to embarrassed to admit it. his post fight interview sounded like he was just talking out of his ass. bernard even lost his cool i think in the tenth when he and joe squared up at the end of the bell. watch the fight again but look at hopkins face, he just didnt have it

Yep, especially at the later rounds as jmm's work rate was waning..

ask yourself what Hopkins was doing during this time though :patsch

Hopkins landed a handful of lead rights, that's it, the rest was from holding and hitting, but you're trying to make it sound like he was stood in the center of the ring, leaning against Calzaghe throwing combo's... he wasn't, he was wrestling, butting, hitting low, doing whatever he possibly could do take him out of his game. He got beat at his own game however, didn't throw enough in the center of the ring and instead resorted to pitter patter inside shots with no leverage (see, it works both ways and Hopkins punches inside had nothing on them).

Exactly - IMHO BHop basically cheated by taking time out for that 'phantom low blow'. That punch was low, but he was giving himself time to rest in general and just using that as an excuse.

He NEEDED the rest, and was too dishonest and cowardly to take his punishment like a man.

Exactly, alot of people fail to look at it from both ways.

No question that Hopkins lead rights that landed clean, were to few and far between to win him rounds.

There were many times in the fight where I could see Hopkins try and flurry with Calzaghe.....but Hopkins punches were starting out from a distance of well in front of his body so that he could keep up with Calzaghe's edge in speed.

When Hopkins chose to flurry with Calzaghe, he had no leverage on his shots because of exactly the reason I pointed out.....Hopkins did'nt have his hands and arms cocked back in a ready position to throw a shot with power, they were out in front of him in a position for the punch to travel a shorter distance so that he could have some connects in the face of Calzaghe's speed.

.....then the clinch came repeatedly because Hopkins realized he was'nt going to hang with Calzaghe's speed.

THANK YOU. Exactly - Hopkins basically cheated.

Hopkins would never let a white boy stop him. He'd do ANYTHING to avoid that including holding, low blows, headbutts and that shameful move in the 10th.

People don't change. Hopkins is still that dishonest, cheating kid that wound up in jail all those years ago; he was just smart enough to find a different career - boxing instead of assault and battery.

Spot on. Watch BHop being interviewed after the 1st Jermain Taylor fight - you can tell that he truly BELIEVED that he won.

Watch him being interviewed after the Calzaghe fight - you can tell that he KNOWS he lost even though he is too dishonest / embarrassed to admit it.

Maybe in time BHop will redeem himself and give Joe credit.

i doubt its useless, maybe thats how it looks but it must have hurt if it landed. BHOP was grimacing in pain when the soft punch landed in his crotch..:hey

i think when bhop reviews the fight on tv he will realise that the judges just could not give him the decision based on his tactics -he KNOWS this and even roach which i admire a lot, admit the fight went away from them and he is not singing out loud "we were robbed etc" he knows that bhop just didn't do enough, nazim richardson was telling at ringside to throw the left hook after lead right, but joe just didn't stay to long for him to throw it. Not sure why bhop couldn't do it, maybe credit to joe taking away his combos and limiting him to 1 punch -the lead right down the pipe.

see you tube and search for freddie roachs comments post fight, i think its uploaded by fighthype

yes, it was impressive how joe went from punching like bernard's sister to punching like earnie shavers when he tapped driving miss daisy on the waist.
