Its easy to say retire. He wont retire until he is completly done. Right now, despite his age and his performances he is still the draw. As long as he remains in that spot he will continue fighting for money and glory. If Pavlik knocks him out he will retire for sure.

I mostly agree with this, but there could only ever be one winner... if you catch some one cold and put them down you don't run away. Hopkins was scared of the punch volume from JC. He's lost power since he put Eubank down and had some one punch KOs but he still beats people up with cumulative punches. Albeit like most people he never hit Hopkins that cleanly.. bar one break where he clocked him.

good points. as i said above, i'd probably agree that jc 'won' the fight w/ hopkins b/c hopkins didn't do enough, but it was close. and yeah joe c did put a hurtin on lacey with an accumulation i gotta admit that.

Roach is the one to provide answers according to his personal communication with his fighter, not the other way around. We're talking about a trainer who has been tryin to make Filipino, Russian, Mexican and Mike Tyson/James Toney understand his suggestions... Bernard is and always will be Bowie Fisher's and Nazeem Richardson's fighter and now he is his own trainer along with adviser John David Jackson. I wouldn't guarantee that Hopkins gassed out but age surely took its tool on him and Joe Calzaghe figured him out... What have we learned from this last Hopkins' fight? That Calzaghe adapted to Hopkins better than Hopkins did to Calzaghe in the 36 minutes of action and that Hopkins was not weaker by any means against Calzaghe. Hopkins-Pavlik? Whole new ball game, scenarios have to start from scratch.

Interesting, very interesting. Other than the war of words for the DLH-PacMan media hype, Roach is one honest dude and a great trainer, so I believe if he's very concerned about BHop's health.

But if he said Hopkins did just fine during training, I don't think he's done... not a chance... I know a lot of boxers with great stamina, but Calzaghe is on another level... I think putting up the pressure, throwing, throwing, throwing was too much for Hopkins. Remember he did really fine in the final rounds vs. Wright and Tarver and back then he KO'd Tito late, came on strong vs. DLH late etc. etc...

Maybe a single word is the answer to Roach's Q about what went wrong... Calzaghe... I've never EVER seen disbelief on Hopkins' face... he simpy didn't have a clue what to do in the last rounds...

Pavlik is a different kind of animal. Great stamina and punch output as well with a lot more power. On the other hand, he's very basic, sets everything up with the jab and doesn't give as many angles, so Hopkins might have a bit easier time in the final rounds. Calzaghe adapted superbly in the second half of the fight. We're yet to see if Pavlik is capable to do the same thing.

    Revisionist history?

Calzaghe was clearly hurt by the knockdown, that was not a flash knockdown. He admitted to being hurt. He also admitted that Hopkins was his toughest opponent.

Calzaghe: "Hopkins Was My Toughest Fight"

Unfortunately, some of his fans like to change history but facts always prevail.

Yes it was so clear that it wasn't a SD that BBC scored it for Hopkins and Setanta Sports a draw.

Yes, a picture tells a thousand words doesn't it.

But video tells a lot more. Watch the vid of the knockdown and tell me on a scale of 1 - 10 how hurt you think Joe was.

How did the fight re-commence after the restart? Who was pushing the action?

Hurt his pride more than anything.

You have nuthugged every single British fighter out there today, mission not complete yet?, go back to soccer already man.

Joe was hit with a perfect clean shot that stunned him, he wasn't completely gone or seriously hurt by it but it stunned him and hurt him. Nothing major but a clean perfect shot he didn't see coming.

Roach does know that Hopkins was 43 when he fought Calzaghe? :huh

But it was hilarious watching Hopkins walk to a neutral corner like two times in the first 5 rounds.

Thats the biggest pile of bull**** ive ever heard.

Robin Reid should have ended JC unbeaten streak and was robbed with a split decision.

    Joke of a decision

Never heard about the robin Reid fight, sounds like Calzaghe fans try to hide the evidence by not bringing up the fight.

Don't really care first and 2nd, you just proved my point that he lost, cause your a fanboy and you never once mentioned it from what i've seen on site since i've been a member. The fact that he fought nothing but bums in his early career says that no one would waist their time to look it up.
