Interesting comments from Roach, you really have to listen to what this guy says, judging by recent form on the preiction front anyway.

I personally think Clottey has a great chance of beating Cotto. If he fights with the same gameplan as he did against Margaarito he's going to be stopped.... if that does happen he's career isn't over, why not have an all or nothing fight against Ricky Hatton? The loser retires, and the winner has has potential big fights lined up again.

 

Ther key to this one will be Cotto's body attack! If he does it then he wins, if not he don't.

 

For once I agree with Roach.

 

I have Cotto losing his next fight too. Clottey is a beast.

 

It's nice that Freddy is committed to barbershop stimulus.

If Zab gave Clottey a run for his money, Cotto should be able to outpoint him. The question is whether Cotto can keep his chin protected for the full twelve.

 

is this meant to be a revelation(?),EVERYBODY knows cotto's in for a tough fight.

 

I think that Roach is just saying what he wishes. I don't think that he wants to pair PAC with Cotto at 14? cause he knows that Cotto has a good chance to beat PAC and that will ruin a fight with PBF.

If we look at this closely this is the way I see this fight happen.

Mentally Cotto has a lot to proof and a lot to loose if he looses this fight.
1. He is fighting at MSG during the eve of the PR Parade (that's preasure)

2. He fired his trainer / uncle because he wanted to train in FL were he feels that he has less distractions (to me that's positive if he wanted to be less distracted)

On the other hand Clotey is hungry, no questions about that. He has one helluva defense with the turtle defense, has chin and durability (however, this durability can also be attributed to the sometimes "breaks" that he tends to take on the ropes in some rounds). He definately needs to make Cotto use his legs by preasure like Margo did against Cotto. You don't beat Cotto by punching at him only, you beat him by making him use his stamina 100% of each round and I am not sure if Clottey has the proper foot work to cut the ring and go forward all the time against Cotto while having to shut down with the turtle defense every time Cotto comes to attack. Remember, Clottey doesn't move when he is covering himself with the turtle defense, he can't move, because he covers his face and therefore his vision as well!

Overall we all know that SSM is way better than Clottey in defense, speed, ring smarts and foot work and he couldn't get the job done. Margo did because he has one of the craziest chin's (at least up to that point), great stamina and had decent foot work (at least to cut the ring) plus Margo has the tendency of getting better and better with every round and I am not sure if this is the case with Clottey. Please note that I am not even mentioning the wraps but for some folks this can also be attributed.

Cotto is hungry and is preparing himself like never before. He knows that everyone will try to exploid what they see is a weakness which is his conditioning. Let's see what happens but honestly, Cotto has a better chance to beat Clottey in this fight.

 

roach is wrong on this one. there's always a chance, but i definitely don't see clottey doing it. the only loss cotto's got is against a bearded freak of nature who threw 100+ punches every round and out pressured him until near the end of the fight when cotto gassed/couldn't defend himself any longer from the constant workrate. clottey simply cannot do what margo did.
