He says he is 156, 3 weeks before the fight against DRod! Could Cotto really make 147 without draining himself? His body has took a lot of punishment would love to see him against JMM or Timbo winner...
Are you serious??? You are talking about the Canelo who just got schooled by Floyd!!! And to his credit no shame in his game....he did his best and was well conditioned.....just wasn't good enough!!!!!
Prime Cotto was better than "feet of stone" Canelo. Cotto is psychologically destroyed but maybe Roach can rebuild his confidence. There was never anything wrong with Cotto's skill levels.
remember that Cotto didn't have to drain himself as much as Canelo did to make 154, he is very comfortable at that weight, I doubt he can make 147 and look decent, too many wars and too many punches eaten throughout his career Cotto is not nearly as fast as Floyd, he is also small at 154, he'd be dwarfed by Canelo, against Floyd Cinnamon's weight advantage turned out to be his disadvantage, as he was slow and sluggish when compared to Floyd
Wrong. I have been saying this for a long time. Even before Cotto's first fight at 154lbs. Cotto should have never fought a pound over 147lbs. His body is for 147. He is at a disadvantage at 154. That is not his best fighting weight. I took an expert like Roach a couples of weeks with him to realized that. Roach knows what he is talking
Cotto could easily make 147, he's very small for a light middlewieght.. He only moved to 154 because Pac ran him out the division & Top Rank had an easy title for him to pick up off Foreman. Think about it he weighed 146 for Clottey & then 145 for Pac before moving up.
he also had a slight height advanatge over Floyd, but was is bigger than him in terms of build, Canelo would weigh around 15 lbs more on fight night vs Miguel, he has a bigger body frame than Cotto and he will continue to grow as he gets older
147 was Cotto's best weight, and I think he can compete there in a healthy state. This, however, does not mean we'd all of a sudden see Cotto in his prime there.
Cotto is no where near on the same level that he was when he fought Floyd. I don't think he's motivated or training hard at all.
Don't fall for the old 'floyd beat him easy so he's no good'.. canelo will go on to do big things in boxing. He'd beat cotto now.
