If a lucrative fight with Floyd Mayweather cannot be done, Freddie Roach has an attractive substitute in mind for Manny Pacquiao.
“Let's fight (Juan Manuel) Marquez (for the third time),” Roach told the Bulletin yesterday from Los Angeles.
Even though Marquez is coming off a loss – a lopsided unanimous decision to Mayweather – he remains a bankable foe owing to the result of his two fights with Pacquiao.
Marquez's bitter rivalry with Pacquiao stretches back to May 2004 when the two battled to a disputable 12-round split draw.
Four years later, they rekindled their rivalry with Pacquiao escaping with a 12-round split decision in a fight that left the Filipino black and blue.
Roach said fight fans are still going to be interested in seeing Pacquiao and Marquez go at it in a rubber match.
“They're going to watch it,” said Roach, who is not so cool about Pacquiao meeting Yuri Foreman.
Foreman, the reigning World Boxing Association super-welterweight king, is being lined up to face Pacquiao on March 20 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas most especially that Mayweather seems to be reluctant in softening up in his demand for an Olympic-style drug testing.
Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum said it'll be historic if Pacquiao goes for his eighth world title against Foreman.
Roach contradicts those who view Foreman as easy pickings for Pacquiao.
“He's big, he's tall and he's rangy,” said Roach. “It's going to be tough.”

Sounds pretty dangerous for Pacquiao. But he holds the weight a lot better than Marquez.

Pacquiao/Marquez would be a virtual mismatch.

JMM is coming of a loss to fraud let him fight Hatton first to see if he still has it,if he does i wouldnt mind seeing a third fight but only if it is at 140 and not at 147 a weight where its clear that JMM isnt half the fighter he was at the lighter weights.

Marquez shouldn't play along with this ****, going against a suspected cheater way above his natural weight class. Marquez is a 126/130lb fighter who has aged significantly. Why did they choose to fight David Diaz instead of Marquez again when it was relevant? Roach truly has no shame.

Take Hatton for the easier payday.

I disagree, and their previous two fights suggest otherwise.

I see this as a VERY dangerous fight for Pac to take...JMM is, and always will be all wrong for him.

Roach is too arrogant now, and thinks that he and his fighter are above having to make the best fights happen. It's almost a Mayweather-esque "I'm so good I don't even need to prove myself" mentality.

    Perverse.

Manny will still have to take the blood tests, Marquez is a golden boy fighter, and do you really think that Golden Boy is going to let this go? Pacquiao doesn't have the options his ******ed fans thinks he does, he has just a as many as Mayweather and after this fiasco probably less.

No deal. Paulie was the one who first made it high profile after the Cotto fight but rumours have been floating around for a while now.

Face it, your boy is ducking Mayweather.

To be the man you gotta beat the man.
