How does his power compare to the elite heavyweights? "I've worked with a lot of heavyweights (Wladimir) Klitschko, (Mike) Tyson," Roach said. "He hits as hard as any heavyweight in the world. Warming up on the mitts with him, sometimes I'm like, 'Gee, that one almost missed.' He scares me a little bit. He can punch with any heavyweight out there." The client list of Roach who has been named the Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year seven times - is a who's who of professional boxing. In addition to Klitschko and Tyson, Roach has trained Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Michael Moorer, Ruslan Provodnikov, Amir Khan and Guillermo Rigondeaux. How does Lippe-Morrison compare to some of Roach's other prize pupils? He's a little ahead of them, actually, Roach said. It took me four years to get (light heavyweight) Virgil Hill into a world title and then (flyweight) Brian Viloria was the same. It took him four years to get to a title. These were great amateurs and medalists themselves. Trey has only been boxing for about a year and he's picking up things that took them longer to pick up. Roach thinks there is no ceiling on Lippe-Morrison's rise. The heavyweight division in America right now isn't that great, Roach said. We need a good heavyweight. They talk about the UK gold medalist (Anthony Joshua) scheduled for a title fight already. I think we are right there with him. I don't think he is any better than we are. Maybe we can step in his way.
Roach talks up all his guys. I wouldn't put too much stock into this although it is nice to hear that he has potential. Would be once to have a good American heavy back on the scene.
Treys power is for real... That much is certain. He's a natural athlete, and fighter... Just like his old man. He has talent but has lots of work to do in order to make lost time. 4 more years in the gym, and fights before we really know what he's made of. Is he just the son of a legend, or is he more? I want to think it's the former, but he won't know for a while... I know one thing though, he's a joy to watch just like his old man.
Yeah you kind of have to take what he say's with a grain of salt... Not just Roach, a lot of trainers and fighters say these kind of things.
Unlike a lot of people on this site I can actually walk and chew bubble gum at the same time. Freddie is most likely dirty and Floyd and his father are more than likely dirty.:good
Trey is ranked 134 in the world; perfect Wilder opponent. Talk about a cherry pick could go wrong lol
Lippe is not going anywhwere. No amatuer experience, chinny like his dad, small by modern standards. The last thing we need is another manufactured heavyweight hypejob. Undoutedly follwed by George "Monk" Foreman. Perhaps then by the real George Foreman.
