My father grew up in and is from Dedham, MA., the same town Freddie and his two brothers are from. My father is 12 years older than Freddie but boxed out of the sme gym and remembers all three Roach brothers well. He's told me Freddie was always a real and honest dude and that all three Roach brothers had stones the size of Texas. I'll take his word on most anything he says regarding past sparring stories and most of his takes on boxing.

So he got knocked out by Greg Haugen in his 30's but he's sparring with Wlad in his 40's and taking his punches

 

He retired at 26 or 27, so I don't know what you're talking about. The whole family is passionate as can get about boxing. 4 brothers besides himself -- all boxed, two athlete sisters and his mother was a boxing judge and father a former New England champ. Even with Parkinson's -- if it were up to Freddie -- I'm sure he'd spar Anthony Joshua right now if he could.

 

There is no question in my mind that Freddie Roach is a tough guy. I know Hector Munoz pretty well, and he is like Freddie Roach, will spar ANYBODY. Tough M-F. But let me tell you in no uncertain terms, Freddie Roach was a mediocre LIGHTWEIGHT. He might have thought he was sparring Tyson and Klistch, but they definitely did not think they were sparring him.
