Nobody is willing to take on an unknown fighter with power anymore after that. Roach is absolutely right here. It sucks, but he's right. Too little risk and not enough reward.

What with all the boxing fans made accountants ? all of the sudden you care about how much money Cotto makes or doesnt make ?? (also you can bet your life that GGG brings more money then Geale....).
Lucky for us boxing fans there is a thing called mandatory (which i hope someone will enforce) that makes those "what he brings to the table" fighters fight the rising stars or vacate like the cowards that they are.
if you dont want to see the best fight the best and only care about media hyped fighters from the established countries then just say so "guys i dont care about boxing i care about revnue and bottom lines of the boxing world".
i never expected to hear so much money talks in a boxing forum... unreal

Apparantly only 10 people showed up only 4 of them knew who he was
So one of the guys , a HS football coach tried a test on HS athletes. He showed them pics of sports stars in street clothes. They all knew Michael Jordan. Ali. Tiger Woods etc but only 4 of them knew who Floyd was.

Yet millions watch him on pay per view, hysteric crowds appear wherever he goes, millions follow him on social media and celebs show him respect... I know it's because of his caricature antagonist act and almost wrestler-like persona but the guy is well known alright because he is a superb boxer and because of how he plays the game, he isn't a nobody and his achievements can't be swept aside because of your alleged story sorry.

Gennady Golovkin impressed a lot of fans and media with his HBO debut back on September 1. But promoter Lou DiBella says he's got no hope of fighting Sergio Martinez, because he brings nothing to the table.

Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO) is a legitimate contender in the middleweight division. But he is not a star, and he's got a long way to go before he builds his name enough that he could face the likes of Sergio Martinez, says Martinez's promoter, Lou DiBella.

"Who would give a flying ****, and why are you even asking? Who knows Gennady Golovkin other than you, me and a few other people? How many people would he bring to the table? How much money would he generate? ... He is a very good fighter, but it's a fight that economically makes no sense."

But Dzinziruk and Barker were well known and fights against them made economical sense? What did they bring to the table that trumped unifying the WBC and WBA straps?

DiBella's point is this: Sergio Martinez, now 37 years old and coming off by far the biggest (not best - biggest) win of his career over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, is in this game now to make money. He's got the credibility. He's got the quality wins. He's got the P4P love. He's got the respect. And now he wants to be that star-level fighter.

"I heard that shot," Lou DiBella, Macklin's promoter, said. "It sounded like something cracked. That was the hardest body shot possibly I've ever seen."

DiBella said the knockout reminded him of Roy Jones' memorable one-shot body punch knockout of Virgil Hill, which caused a broken rib.

"That was one of the hardest body shots I've seen since that knockout," DiBella said. "Golovkin is a beast. He's an animal. This kid is going to demolish people for awhile. In terms of ability, he is an absolute animal. Matt was game and fighting, but Golovkin is super strong. He's a great fighter. I give him all his props. He needed to show it against a real guy. That was one of the great body shots I've ever seen, and I've been around this game for 25 years."

It would be a natural for Golovkin to take on Martinez to prove who the better man at 160 pounds is. But Lou DiBella, Martinezs promoter, said fans shouldnt count on seeing that anytime soon.

Its not out of the question. But hes not going to come off a 14-month layoff to fight this animal, DiBella said. My advice to him would not to come off a year and a half layoff to fight this guy.

Martinez is out until at least the spring because of injuries, so that isn't happening. DiBella, who also promotes Martinez, said he had no interest in the fight even if Martinez was healthy and ready to go.

"There is no sense," DiBella said, realizing that he has an ageing fighter and that Golovkin, who earned $350,000, is coming into his own.

Moments after the fight, Macklin promoter Lou DiBella ventured over to reporters at ringside and ended any suspense. He's not looking to put Sergio Martinez, who holds the WBC middleweight belt, in with Golovkin any time soon.

Martinez is injured and likely to miss the rest of the year. Assessing a potential Martinez-Golovkin match, DiBella quickly killed all hopes of a fight.

Golovkin was a nobody in 2012. FFS he made his HBO debut the same month Martinez fought Chavez Jr.

Then Martinez took a tuneup in Murray who was supposed to be a stepping stone to a Chavez rematch.

In that time frame Golovkin beat Ishida, Rosado and Proksa. A real scary resume .

Now after those fights is when Golovkin became a legimate contender and in no time rose to the number one spot.
During that time, Martinez recovered from injuries and after a year out of the ring, he took a supposedly easy payday in Cotto. :!:

There was never a real point where you could say that Martinez was ducking Golovkin, with the exception of 2014.

And who was Dzinziruk? Dzinziruk was a fight HBO presented. (Dzinziruk was to appear on HBO as part of some deal Shaw had with HBO).
Martinez was supposed to fight his mandatory - Sebastian Zbik. Hbo turned that fight down and gave Martinez Dzinziruk.
Chavez Jr vs Zbik was approved by HBO for the WBC championship and Martinez was stripped of his belt :roll:.
And what did Jose Sulaiman have to say about it all?

"Martinez dropped his belt because HBO did not accept the mandatory fight he had to do with Sebastian Zbik. He agreed to step aside, while Chavez fought Zbik, and then [Martinez] returned. But it was HBO who shut him [away from the title]. They told him 'we will not accept the fight with Zbik. It has to be with [Dzinziruk].' HBO appointed the challenger. But [Martinez] had to make a mandatory defense, and the Council could not step aside. We have to respect the order, we must respect the laws [of the WBC]. It was HBO who stole the title," Sulaiman told ***********.com's Carlos Irusta.

HBO was not pushing Golovkin during Martinez´s last years as the champion. Golovkin vs Rosado only drew 800k.

Of course he's dangerous, he's dangerous to Cotto's income. He will offer peanuts for money compared to fights with Mayweather and Alvarez and is very risky to boot. Someone needs to tell GGG that you don't get a payday for begging and devouring bums.
