Why didn't Floyd come down to 140 for JMM? Why did JMM have to come up 2 weight classes if he wanted a fight with Floyd?

Why didn't Floyd come down to 140 for the Hatton fight but instead make Ricky come up to 147?

Those challenging the best fighter in the world usually comes to their world...or meet at catch weight.

exactly. I could understand a catchweight when he moved up and fought Oscar, but now it is just blatantly weakening a bigger guy to make it look like he really beat that big fighter and to rack up wins and get titles. If he has to weaken him, how great is the win.

Is Roach calling out MArtinez at 147? or just replying to someone asking him about Martinez?

IF Manny could get to 154 he would crush Martinez within 10 rds. (Even though Martinez would be weighing around 165-170 fight night)

Cos Pacquiao is there HERO! They will defend him at ANY costs no matter how stupid they look!:patsch
The fact that Roach would even say this, shows his mentality.

interviewer: how do you feel about fighting martinez?

Roach: he will need to come down to 147 for that (implying pac will never fight above the ww limit again)

i think its most likely something like this not roach saying he would love a martinez fight but it has to eb at 147 to minimize the risk.

Its pointless though, its very unlikely that they will ever fight.

Teddy Atlas discredits Manny on ESPN Friday Night Fight (first Friday after Manny won against shame Mosley). Teddy said that he’s not impressed with Manny at all, fought the dehydrated Oscar, the exposed Cotto, the Beerman Hatton, etc… if Manny is really great, why not fight Sergio Martinez? Let him climb weight class like Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, like Thomas Hearns did, like all great fighters did, said Teddy on live TV. I asked to myself, is Teddy only watching boxing every Friday (maybe he doesn’t have HBO or Showtime), does he know what happened outside Friday Night fights?... Roach answered, “Tell Teddy and let Teddy tell Sergio Martinez to fight Manny at 147 lbs and we’ll knock him out like Margarito did to him, and that is not a joke!”

Let him climb weight classes like all great fighters did? He started at 106 frigging pounds and has climbed and won belts in EIGHT DIFFERENT weight classes. NO ONE has ever accomplished that! Now at least give the guy his accolades for that accomplishment alone, regardless how you (Or Teddy Atlas) feels about him. :-(

pussies- they fought Margarito at JMW? Why not extend the same gratitude vs Maravilla?? Oh right because they knew Margo was **** and didn't have a chance in hell no matter what weight they fought at. This has nothing to do with weight and everything to do with the fact that Martinez has a legit chance at winning and team Pac will never fight anyone with that credential without severly handicapping them.

This Pacquiao hate over a Martinez fight I find hilarious.

Teddy Atlas brought up Pernell Whitaker as an example of great fighters proving their greatness by going up to face challenges, but he failed to mention:

1.Whitaker had one fight at 154, picking up a belt and dropping it to go back down (just like Pac), when Whitaker could've fought Norris and that was like the 4th division he fought at.

2.Whitaker also made Chavez go up to welter to fight him, and didn't fight him when he won a paper title at 140, a belt taken off Chavez (which he won from Taylor).

3.At welter Whitaker didn't fight Quartey and Trinidad for 5 years when they were all top P4P and long reigning champs.

So the only notable fights Whitaker had at 140-154 were Chavez & De La Hoya, two guys coming up in weight, and he didn't fight established guys at their weights Chavez (140), Quartey (147), Trinidad (147) and Terry Norris (154).

Pac has gone up like 10 divisions already from when he started, beating a stack of ATGs and HoFs from 126-147 - who's done that? Amazing how these idiot haters can't get that through their heads. Now they want him to take on a middleweight to prove his greatness lol. Never mind Martinez needing to go up where the bigger challenges are at to prove his greatness eh? Atlas and his ilk don't seem like they know boxing history, or they're just ignoring it to spread their biased hatred.

I think what comes next is N. Donaire asking Martínez to come down to 122.

Martinez is to smart to let Roach and Pac bait him at 147. Where's the challenge for Pac if he fought Martinez at that weight?
