buzz your trying to hard man. No way is walking pacquiao down a good strategy. That's like walking into a firing squad (to steal a quip from Larry Merchant).

What do you think Pac was doing with Hatton all night? He was fighting backwards that entire fight, landing countershots. If Floyd wants to use that strategy, he's going to get eaten up.

There's an easy way for Pac to prove that Floyd is scared... agree to the tests.

If the fight doesn't get made then, I'll agree with Pac fans. Until then...:hi:

Buzz, you're proving his point for him... Pac was backing up. He may not have been moving when he threw that punch, but how can you say he wasn't moving in reverse?

There's a huge difference between setting up counters and not being given a chance to sit on your punches or lunge into them. Floyd won't be lunging in throwing, he'll close the distance and wait for Pac to throw first. Floyd will also be baiting with the jab to get Pac to throw his counter left which Floyd will counter with his left hook. Watch when Pac throws the straight left... he always drops his right hand leaving him open to Floyd's "check" hook.

Mayweather can beat Pacquiao going fowards, backwards, side to side, it doesn't matter. For Pacquiao to win he has to either land a lucky punch, outhink Mayweather, or simply not allow Mayweather to think himself in there. There's no way Roach truly believes Mayweather's legs are shot. He's not an idiot. He also knows Mayweather's defense is top notch. Trust me when I tell you, he will be spending countless hrs. trying to solve the Mayweather riddle.

Now this is just my BS boxing opinion, but I think he only uses it when he feels the guy's offense is legit, a guy is a southpaw, and/or to prove a point.

Say what you want about Zab now, but he is hell on ANY fighter for the first 4-6 rounds (except Clottey's impenetrable defense), high guard. Mosley's reputation precedes him, high guard. Prime Chop Chop, high guard. Who got the shoulder roll? Hatton, ODLH, Baldomir, Gatti, etc...

Seems if he doesn't feel he can just out point you? It is on! :bbb

Contrast with Mayweather pulling the trigger on his check hook while actually moving BACKWARD:

Keeping a high guard is most definitely a good strategy against Pacquiao. There's no mistaking that Pacquiao can do damage if he can land. The key is not letting him get clean shots in. Whether Floyd decides to press forward or play more of a waiting game and control distance with short-steps backwards to gauge range will be the question mark on how he decides to fight.

You might think that was largely different from what Pac did with Cotto, but the difference isn't that large. Mayweather's feet were planted in the corner when he threw that hook to circle out.

What i'm wondering is, why would you expect Pac to fight moving backwards? He's not an outboxer, and never will be. Pac fighting on his back foot is about as dumb as Mayweather trying to walk him down and engage him offensively.

And he's pulling that on an orthodox fighter, now a southpaw. Check hooks don't work on southpaws. Watch the Judah fight for a better contrast of what Mayweather will [try] to do.

I would have to agree with you there. Pac has fought SURPRISINGLY well going backward. That "hook-er-cut" was crisp and on the mark. Cotto wasn't even reaching that bad. Pac stopped mid stride, cheated slightly right, and BAM! Nice shot!

I really don't see FMJ ever "chasing" Pac that way with offense. I see more "controlled" exchanges where FMJ constantly positions himself in front of Pac and plays the "twitch" game, "If you wait? I am going to hit you. Or you are going to get anxious, try to punch, and I am going to hit you. Either way... I am going to hit you."

You never know though. Pac has game changing power in those fists and he can chunk them 12 rounds.

Floyd by clear unanimous decision with Pacquiao fouling late to buy himself time to reach the final bell?
