For the DLH-PBF fight. Not only did he have the months to prepare for the PBF fight he also had the live ring side fight to coach DLH on. Knowing this, shouldn't Roach already know PBF pretty damn well having studying him leading up to the DLH fight as well as being able to be in DLH's corner to observe the whole PBF-DLH 12rd fight. One one side Roach says PBF will be the easiest fight out of the welters and Pac will knock him out. On the other side PBF will be the toughest fight for Pac. First he says he wants the March date. Then he says he wants the May date as he needs more time to prepare for PBF and Pac needs more time to heel. So either Roach already knows his gameplan for PBF and is just messing around to try and throw PBF off even though maybe he knows something about PBF that he will try and exploit. Or PBF is that damn good that even though Roach was able to train DLH for months facing PBF as well as be able to coach DLH throughout the fight yet still needs more time to try and figure PBF out. If the ladder is true then that is a good testament of how complete a fighter PBF really is. Its should be interesting. Maybe Roach and Pac can pull something off to shock the world. I doubt it though. If Roach thinks that he can just outwork PBF based off the DLH fight he is wrong though. Its possible, but I wouldn't bank the fight solely on that. As PBF wanted DLH to work hard so he could tire out in the later rds. Then PBF wanted to come strong at the end in which he did. PBF knows Pac isn't going to tire down so he won't employ the same strategy.
a past his best dlh pushed floyd very close, maybe a prime pacquiao can go one better & win,i dont think roach is that big of a factor in it tbh
A trainer can have the best gameplan in the world, but if the fighter doesn't have the attributes or skill to execute it, it won't matter. Pac doesn't have the size, or length of a De La Hoya. Whatever strategy Roach used in that fight will be useless with Pacquiao. I don't even think Hoya pushed Mayweather all that hard in that fight. Hoya barely landed any good punches and did very little after the 7th round.
I'm not saying he is going to win, but I am sure Roach will have a different game plan for this fight. As Manny and DLH are two vastly different fighters.
Physical attributes aren't that important with fast boxers. The fatest in the history of boxing have routinely got up against bigger fighters, who couldn't live with their speed. Speed negates reach. Pacquiao does have the physical attributes to beat Mayweather. He hits hard enough to hurt him, he's a faster combination puncher, he's more agile and has faster feet. All these things play a huge part. Not one active welterweight has the edge in physical strengths over Mayweather, that Pacquiao does. A good gameplan will give Pacquiao the win.
My argument isn't that Pacquiao doesn't have the physical atributes to beat Floyd, it's that he doesn't have the physical attributes to execute the game plan that Roach used in the Hoya/Mayweather fight. Pacquiao will need more than a good gameplan to beat Floyd. Quite simply put, Floyd is a better fighter than Pacquiao. Pac will need to get to Floyd early. If he doesn't, he will be picked apart and will lose.
There is also the question that even though Roach had all that time to train vs PBF. What if he was being true about his need for even more time. What doe that say about PBF's skills.
Manny may not be better than prime De La Hoya at welterweight, but there's no doubting he's tougher stylistically for Mayweather. Prime De La Hoya beats Mayweather, but only because he was better...his style makes it harder than it should be. Pacquiao has the edge in style and if he has the right gameplan, wins. Mayweather will not be able to fight at the same pace as Manny's fast rounds. He will get a beating in these, even if his defence and counter punching is good. He just can't keep Pacquiao off him. Of course, this prediction is heavily reliant on Pacquiao using the right gameplan.
I think the gap between Floyd and Pacquiao is pretty big, in terms of talent - however, I think Pacquiao is the better man. Floyd at 130lbs was truly special. That version, is as impressive as Pacquiao post-Diaz. Recently, I haven't been impressed with Mayweather.
Roach knows that Pac style plays right into what Floyd does best, He needs more time because he knows that he needs to come up with a way for Pac to fight floyd. with Oscar he thought that he could just use the jab ans push floyd back, but what happened in that fight was floyd adjusted and took Oscars jab away. Pac doesnt have that option and Roach knows that, at the same time he knows that pac isnt going to be able to jump in throw and few shots and jump out the way he has done in other fights, he knows that Floyd will ONE push Pac back, and two time him on the jump in. So what it comes down to is Roach tring to figure out how to attack floyd with Pac's skill set.
Oscar was past it when he fought Floyd. Roach actually did a pretty damn good job of helping Oscar get the result he got. If you look at the pre-fight talk and odds Floyd was not expected to struggle so much. I think Roach said Floyd would be the easiest fight when Floyd was still retired. Also I'm sure he was expecting Pac to fight Floyd at a catchweight. Fighting a guy who is rusty coming out of retirement at a catchweight when your fighter is well rested is alot easier than moving up to fight him at his weight after he has had a tuneup and when your guy doesn't have much time to recuperate from his last fight.
ding ding ding, we have a winner. Excellent post. furthermore dlh is taller with a plus in reach, when we compare to pac. So dlh had an "easier" task of getting floyd within range, then pac is going to. floyd has the business best lead straight right, its not that powerfull, but is so damn precise and has enough on it, to get the opponents respect. I see floyd landing that shot a lot, while pac lunges in with his jab. pac is an awesome fighter, but in this fight i see floyd countering and ad******g to almost everything pac brings to the table. if all things were equal and here i mean size and reach, my pick wpuld be pac, but floyd has some advantages, that i dont see pac overcome.
