From this month's (August) Boxing Monthly.

"Roach has made it clear that he will advise Khan to throw away the WBA belt if he isordered to fight dangerous interm champion Marcos Maidana. I can't imagine those comments will please promoter Frank Warren or the Panama based organisation, and if the showdown is mandated it presents a prickly problem. Roach certainly isn't welcoming unifaction matches."

    Roach is quoted:

"Why in the wrold would we fight Maidana next? There are better fights out there. It is a business and it is about the right fights at the right times. I think we can outbox Maidana, but he's tough, is a good puncher and you don't want to exchange..I would like to see Amir make his American debut against Morales."

    Thoughts?

You certainly can't accuse Roach of being stupid. As far as his comments not pleasing Warren - I can't imagine that would be the case. From a business point of view (which is obviously all Warren cares about) a fight with Maidana makes no sense at all.

Khan can make more money taking an easier fight which is exactly what he'll do. A fight with Morales certainly wouldn't help his credibility with the fans though.

I found that remark strange too. Warren certainly hasn't appeared to be in a hurry to match Khan with Prescott again and I'd say that Maidana is more dangerous if anything.

I don't go with that idea. Khan has to take the risk to establish his name at this point. He can't afford to chose his opponent yet.

    Fight Maidana!

    Morales? :-(

Roach is being smart here. Khan just recently got KTFO by a smaller less powerful version of Maidana. I don't think it would be smart for Khan to step in with Maidana especially at this point when Roach has been working with Khan for only 2 fights. Against Barrera, Khan got tagged and wobbled at some point and I believe that he might even have lost the fight if the ref hadn't stopped it. And against Kotelnik, Khan got tired at the end of the fight.

Roach says out loud what other people in boxing think and feel but don't say and lie about. He gets hated for that but thats the reason I like him. You get no bull**** with Roach, just the truth.

I think Roach is hoping to match Khan with JMM if he loses to PBF which is a good style matchup for Khan against a smaller man and which will get him 10x more recognition than beating Maidana.

It's funny when fans say that when Roach openly admits to wanting to duck fighters for his guys, his fans say that "it's a smart move, why take a tough fight for high risk?" True boxing fans want the best to fight the best. Period. Somehow the Top Rank camp has been given a pass for clearly wanting no part of Mosely.

Pac is fighting the guy who beat Mosley. And noone wants to see Pac vs Mosley at 140 anyways. That would be a mismatch.

i like Khan and i've supported him since the 1st time i saw him fight and kept on the wagon even after he got written off and KTFO'd, but if he fights Morales next......that will definitely change

they have no reason to be in the same ring together, at all..
