Yes, the tourney was set up to favor Ward to such an extent that they matched him against the favorite in the very first round. Nice use of logic. Froch has had a much more difficult road, I don't think anyone disputes that. But to suggest Showtime was behind it is silly. Dirrell pushed Froch and might have pushed Ward, too, but he dropped out. I want to see Ward leave the country, too, but to me this mostly amounts to Froch fans preparing excuses because they're terrified he's going to lose legitimately.
this thread wasnt about who wins in the final or an excuse for the final, i was asking was it fair, glad to see everyone agrees that it wasnt and it was set-up for ward from the start...its like Manchester United playing every game at their home stadium
How can Ward help it that Abraham would retire Taylor and Dirrell in consecutive fights? Let us not forget about Bika. Not in the tournament technically, but how can you not count it and act like he was less active or something. They each have two common opponents, with Kessler actually beating Froch (yes, very close, I know already). If Ward defeats Froch, there will be no doubt, 0%, who the best of the bunch is. And vice versa. 0%. Let us establish that now...
I would be more impressed if people were saying Showtime was trying to create an American superstar 2 years ago when odds were 5/1 that he would win it and 5th of 6th. Now, it doesn't hold any weight. It's sour grapes. If it was supposed to be this obvious that Showtime tried to create and American superstar now was the time to speak up when it first started. Who had the tougher road? Froch hands down. That's not Ward's fault though that Taylor and Dirrell dropped out of the tourney. Also, blame Sauerland for having Kessler come to the States. How fair would that have been in the first round. ALL the fights in Europe? **** that. Abraham or Froch could have gone to the States in the first round, but instead it was determined that Kessler would travel to the States. And majority thought it wouldn't have mattered anyway, Kessler was going to dominate Ward, and he didn't. Now, that Ward continues to dominate and win, now we have people crying.
he got a bye, he got the points win lose or draw, why didnt froch get a bye? if he lost he was out. how does it establish hes the best of the bunch, how do we know if ward had only one fight at home then 4 in other nations he would have won?
there is no crying, a football season...real football or american handegg football are fair, they play equal games home and away, then have the final somewhere neutral....this has been ward home the entire tournament and froch away the entire tournament apart from one fixture.
The Semi-Finals and Finals were always contracted to be in the States. This is something Froch has mentioned many times, and he said he joined up knowing that would be the case. Do you have a point? Probably, but you can't blame Ward's people for negotiating him a better deal. :smoke
even if we take away the locations...why did ward get a bye when an opponent dropped out but not froch? he still had to fight and if he had lost would have been eliminated.
I don't know why they didn't give Ward a real replacement, but if memory serves wasn't Ward already guaranteed a semi-finals spot anyway? Regardless, I'm NOT saying you don't have a point. At the same time, even Froch himself has admitted he knew what he signed on for. So at the end of the day, it is what it is. The factions which brought us the Super Six were thrown a lot of curve balls along the way, and I think they did the best they could on a case by case basis, with Taylor dropping out and Green coming in, Kessler bowing out and Johnson coming in, Dirrell dropping out and Ward fighting Bika, etc. This tournament (IMHO) has been the BEST thing in boxing for the past 2 years, and even though it's a far cry from perfect, I'm sure glad we got it because it's been fun and fighters from an obscure division are getting a lot more attention to the point where even a guy outside the tournament (Bute) is getting more attention than he otherwise would were it not for the Super Six. :smoke
Froach fought Dirrell at home, got his ass humiliated, and got a gift decision. It is a good call to make Froach travel, else he would be in first place had all his fights be in Gifttingham.
Dirrell ran for dear life.. The fight was close and could have gone the other way, but Froch won the fight based on aggression..
humiliated? 3 foreign judges scored it for froch. you cant even spell his name correctly you ignorant ****.
2 European judges scored the fight for Froch. The 1 Mexican from the one country with actual good boxers scored the fight for Dirrell. Meaning Froch won an SD dummy.
LOL @ this bull****. The only guy who got a hometown decision in the tournament was Froch. I also find it amusing that all of the people who have been pissing and moaning about the headbutts in the Kessler fight for the past two years have conveniently ignored the rabbit punching and grappling clinic that Froch was allowed to get away with. The tournament had its flaws, but we got to see a bunch of good match ups. There's still another great one to come in the final.
