Hey guys i been boxing for 3 years now and iv always been regarded as the best runner in the gym, i used to run 10 miles once a week but scrapped it cus my coach told me its overtraining now i run 7 miles once a week then do HIIT on the football field for 20 mins, However at the end of last month i came down with a chest infection i started running again 2 weeks ago and all of a sudden 3 miles is a real struggle what do u think is the problem?

Did the doctor say anything about your chest infection and if it could make you take in less air?

are you still on any antibiotics?
is the infection totaly cleared up?

You'll get back to it quickly, give it a couple weeks.

    Check with your doctor.
If OK to run --- then 3 miles a day should be good.
You may require an inhaler --- try "Synbicort" (good stuff)
Dont quit and understand that your pace may be slowed.
The longer you stop running , the longer to get your wind/breathing back.

Its not unusual to feel wiped out after a serious chest infection for a good couple months, talk to your doc and see what he thinks.

I'd say talk to the doc again. I actually find it kind of unusual that you had a chest infection but weren't on any antibiotics. Even with antibiotics, chest infections often take 2 weeks to fully clear up (that's from my own experience, anyway, I used to get a pneumonia a lot as a kid). I'd say just take it easy until you know the infection is clear. Long-distance running will likely only complicate the problem if the infection still exists.

That is very unusual , im no doctor but i do work in a doctors surgery and iv never seens any one if a chest infection, thats not been treated by antibiotics, obv your body can fight off infection but they dont normally risk it with the chest. There is a med student on here somewhere who knows what hes talking about . But as per usual ill say what i say to everyone who asks medical questions on here , just go talk to your doctor , what is so hard about that for people its what they are there for , its what second oppinions are there for. Id much prefer doctors advice than internet stranger advice lol.

Well you need to find out which it is , if its a virus or an infection. Alot of people think anti biotics are a wonder drug that will cure anything , unfortunatly they work on infections only ( maybe i should say generally as im not 100% sure) Anyways you best bet is to stick with your doctor but there is no harm in getting second oppinion , even in the same surgery , if your doctor minds that then hes not a good doctor:good
