Robberies you didn't score as robberies?

Always thought that people calling Pac's 2 wins over JMM as straight up robberies were blowing it way out of proportion. Both fights were close. Pac clearly edged the second fight while the third fight could have gone either way. Personally I had Pac beating JMM in those 2 fights by a slim margin.

 

He outlanded Foreman by a fairly wide margin on power punches. Like I've said before, you don't penalize an asthmatic for being short of breath.

 

What does this have to do with anything?

Whilst I have no specific insight or knowledge of the impact asthma has on athletic performance, beyond that of the layperson, I suspect it's reasonable to hypothesise that it did contribute to Shannon's renowned poor stamina.

He wasn't just asthmatic for the Foreman fight only, though, so whilst Shannon's asthma is relevant when viewed in the context of what he achieved, it doesn't really have any bearing on how much credit you give Foreman for his performance against him. The credit Foreman gets for that performance is based on what Briggs was capable of in the ring, as demonstrated throughout his career, and particulary in fights around that time.

Besides, which is the bigger disadvantage, being a 26-year old asthmatic or a 48-year old non-asthmatic?

 

Antuofermo-Hagler. I heard a lot about this fight for a long time, finally sat down and watched it closely a few years back and had it 8-7 in rounds for Antuofermo. It was a close fight and not the robbery some have suggested. Marvin created the "I was robbed" every single time he lost or had a close fight.

Bradley-Pacquiao. I thought Pacquiao missed a lot of punches and Bradley outboxed him. I think the HBO crew were responsible for creating the "robbed" atmosphere. I thought the decision was fair.

 

Not true. The Foreman fight was Shannon Briggs' first 12 round fight and his huffing and puffing likely influenced the scores of laypeople, but breath control isn't actually a scoring criterion.

 

It's a shame you had to wait so long to score a fight so badly.

Most of the press thought Hagler had beaten Antuofermo (as had the local Philly press when Hagler failed to get the nod against Watts in '76). So - no - his being robbed of decision wins was not a creation of Hagler's. It actually happened.

Even if one were to be very generous to Antuofermo, who was game but largely ineffective throughout, they'd be hard pushed to give him more than 5 clearly won rounds - and it was not a particularly difficult fight to score.

It was an easy 145-140 to Hagler and I've seen wider cards than that in his favor.

 

I always felt Ellis edged Patterson, and I was rooting for Floyd, didnt do enough for me.

 

I thought Spinks beat Holmes in their second fight

 

I will name some fights that we can never score, that are often cited as robberies, but that I see as being fights that can be interpreted either way.
