Apologies to Demi. Anyway, I scored that fight for Parker. BUT. Many rounds were very close. I think Parker COULD have won by a legitimate score.. That said, there was never any doubt AJ was going to get the decision because, well, you know. Moreover, I was stunned by just HOW slanted the cards were, even expecting that they would be slanted. So, in the sense the cards were not fair, and in the sense we all knew that, at least to some extent, they wouldn't be, it was a robbery. That said, I think the fight was close enough that a legitimate set of cards could have AJ as the winner. Just not by those scores.
Rewatch the fight.. the fight was won off the jab, AJ's range was the problem. Joe's jabs landed on the gloves or in thin air. The difference was AJ's jabs were landing frequently on Joe's face. Of all the meaningful shots thrown, AJ again holds the advantage. Joe just couldn't get in position to throw anything too meaningful due to the jab. Neither fighter was hurt at any point, so really although I would have called it closer how can you call it a robbery? As much as I wanted Joe to win this, I always felt he was the underdog and physically he was unable to overcome AJ's natural advantages in height, reach and strength.
Not a robbery. Cards were wide and don’t tell the real story of the fight...however, Joshua won/stole the vast bulk of the rounds by just a few punches here and there. Those extra attacks, coupled with the superior ring generalship and better jab success won it for him. The scores look bad on paper, but really Joshua won many more rounds than Parker by doing a very small amount more than he.
Scored on striking aj always seemed to be hitting cleaner where Parker was throwing more alot were missing and his jab was not landing and he was not in range. On the inside the ref ruined that section and I had Parker landing the cleaner early with aj landing cleaner later on with the uppercut. AJ controlled the fight he commanded the middle and was backing Parker up and sitting behind the jab. I dont think Parker was backing up intentionally as bjs and others would looking for the counter Parker was backed up to stand a chance Parker needed to be on the front foot closing the gap. I scored aj by 6 alot were close on striking but was easy to give the rounds to aj on control. I could have seen it 5 through 10 rounds for aj depending on if you scored the round fully on effecting striking or took more control into the scoring
the biggest robbery was by the two fighters and their promoters against the fans who paid even a dime to watch.
I had it 116-112 or 115 -113 for Joshua. Close, but not a robbery. The scorecards were a joke. Parker made Joshua miss all night and rolled extremely well with the punches. Parker never gets enough credit for how good his defence is. Joshua simply landed the cleaner and crisper shots. But at the end of the day, Parker needed to take chances and press the action every now and again, which he didn't. Parker will be back, he's still young, I have a feeling these 2 will fight again in the future.
Ok, you are a casual fan who wants to watch a fight, yeah guess you would be disappointed. Tough luck for you then that it was a boxing match.
AJ was missing a lot too. I think 116-112 would have been fairer, but many rounds were on a knife edge so you know the home fighter will get those.
A. I was admittedly drunk. So there's that. B. I may have been giving Parker an advantage because of the bull**** overestimating of AJs chances. C. Many rounds were very close. Watching it i felt most of them could have gone either way. Ergo: D. I don't think the result itself, of aj winning was a robbery. I think the absurd scores were we're a robbery, not the result of winning or losing, but rather the margin. In addition, I think the fact that we all knew AJ was going to get get the benefit of the doubt on the cards was bad.(Maybe I should say "bad" instead of "robbery"
This. I knew ahead of time that beating Joshua on the scorecards was impossible, but Parker proved that Joshua can't handle mobility.
Robbery it was not, i think AJ deservedly won, so right fighter won, the scorecard differentials are merely talking points, even Parker himself stated post fight that the better man won. Personally in my opinion Parkers standing has risen, ok he does not have the WBO title, but he has shown on a massive stage that he is a fighter who would give any Heavyweight out there a bloody hard fight.
It was a close fight, with a lot of tentative rounds and periods where both guys spent a significant amount of time on both the front and back foot. The key for me though was the range. Sometimes Joshua was on the front foot backing Parker up with his jab, but when the roles reversed, Parker's jab was often falling short, and that's why I had it 7-5 Joshua. But honestly I think anywhere between 8-4 Joshua and 7-5 Parker is within reason and the official scorecards were straight up AIDS.
