Good news but old news. I think this was a genius move by Arum.. He's shady as hell but he's smart and knows what's best for his fighters.. Valero always had this hidden boxing ability which is a side most fans never got to see. He's very technical when he wants to be and his counter punching ability is top notch believe it or not.. Alcazar did wonders for the young Delahoya and he's just the right man for valero. Im sure he's going to remind valero to box when necessary...

He gave him very good advice during the fight, he told Valero to keep his chin down. Valero often tends to leave himself in when he comits a punch and also has his head very high exposing his chin, but with Alcazar he style may change.

Alcazar had a whole training camp with Valero to take care of making sure that Valero tucks his chin in.....

.....the one thing Pitalua had was punching power, and so you make certain you have your chin tucked in for those types......

......I just cant imagine a fighter holding his head and chin up as high as Valero had against Pitalua.

Thats the one thing that Alcazar should have made certain that Valero did, but it just did'nt happen.

Honestly I dont have much respect for Roberto Alcazar as a trainer.......imo, DLH had the potential coming out of the Olympics to become one of boxings all-time greats.......what DLH needed as a youngster coming out of the Olympics was a solid trainer to hone his natural skills and work on his weaknesses.......

.....that never happened with Alcazar......DLH got by on his natural God given abilities, but his weaknesses like his stamina, lack of a right hand, and an ability to know where he stood in a fight, was never developed properly, and quite frankly, Roberto Alcazar's ability as a trainer imo had alot to do with DLH ultimately not being able to deal with tough situations in a big fight and come through the way great fighters come through.

With Alcazar, DLH with his born natural abilities became a great fighter......an Eddie Futch, Nacho Beristain, Freddy Roach, Emmanuel Steward.......DLH imo could have been an ATG!

A good trainer can be the difference between being good or just average......and for the naturally skilled fighter, great and ATG!

Roberto Alcazar imo is not going to make any difference to Valero's development.

You might have a point. Oscar under Alcazar is great but that might be Oscar's doing more than his trainer. I agree Oscar had the ability to be a GOAT but he stayed the same from the moment he turned pro until he got old recently. I've been thinking a lot about that lately.

They only worked together for 3 or 4 weeks. You think he's going to make all the changes he wants in that amount of time or even one or two fights?:patsch

Alcazar should have been on Valero to tuck his chin in from day one they were together......

......the way I see it, nothing else should have been worked on until Valero got the part of tucking his chin in right......

.....my goodness, the first two basics a trainer teaches someone learning to box is the stance, and making sure the chin is tucked!

I personally think Valero leaves his hands low and his chin out to draw people in so he can counter them. I seriously doubt that someone on this level is that stupid.

Maybe he should tuck the chin in but yes he does like to do what you're saying. If someone gives him any reason to fight otherwise he will adjust. I thought it was a bit crazy for someone to be judging how things will work with Alcazar and Valero after one month basically. Valero has naturally good timing so he likes to counter when he is not leading with a straight left or jab. Alcazar did not come out of retirement to train Valero for just any reason!

I'm not criticizing him for carrying his hands low.....I got the Pitalua tape right here with me.....Valero's carries his chin high, and it tips above even higher as he lets off his punches.....in other words as his arm travels foward to punch, his chin follows and is raised even higher......
.....thats not luring a fighter in, its just a habit that Valero has attained for lack of a real trainer to teach him proper when he was learning to box.

.....you cant do that against a capable fighter, you'll get KTFO!

He does not lose balance though like Pac does at times. Generally after Valero hits someone they are not to eager to take a shot to give one. They just end up reaching. He'll be making some adjustments as he goes along though.

He does'nt lose his balance as Pac has been known to do.....I like that fact that Valero's eyes are always on the target....and his punching power is genuine, he has naturally strong arms, where Pac relies more on the torque created from his thick leg base.....

.....offensively, Valero has natural punching ability.....but he has wide gaping holes aside from that....his chin held up high, no waist or head movement, and we wont really know if he has the ring generalship to guage distance and use timing against a better skilled fighter until he fights them......

At the very least, as of right now, Valero is not ready for the likes of JMM and Pac!
