I respectfully disagree. It would be easier to get to one ref than three judges. In fact, there have been crooked refs in the past. If you suspect that the system is that rigged then just watch boxing for the entertainment that it brings and don't sweat the decisions. The only thing that makes me root against a fighter nowadays is the fan base of the fighter that I root against.
I would also point out the flawed argument that the referee "sees it all because he has the best view in the house." How many low blows get missed by referees? Happens all the time. Pretending they can "see through the boxer" to see action on the other side is being intellectually dishonest. You're spot on. This was changed for a reason. I like this system we have. It's not perfect, but you can generally find a consensus among the judges from three different angles of view. There is no "perfect system" for scoring boxing.
That doesnt even make sense The judges sit at a table (one view) with the rest of the commentator crew with their bad view, while the ref is following the fighters all around the ring. Not sure youve seen a fight live but unless you are the ref the next best thing is a television that gives all angles without people or ring ropes blocking the view.
You would be wrong because as stated picking one guy to ref ,would then enforce nutral picks from both sides . The athletic commission picks the ref and judges ,this would change if both parties had to agree on one person . As your reasoning to being a fan to go against other fans ,well thats a'll good but again not logical .
Robert Byrd was the closest to the action and most definitely could better guage punches landed and the effectiveness of those punches landed. A point to make here is that right after the decision was announced, Robert Byrd and Andre Ward could be seen having a laugh with eachother. I wondered if they were in cahoots of some sort with eachother because there was an occasion in the fight where Ward fouled Kovalev and Byrd stopped the action to admonish both fighters but he was looking and directing himself toward Kovalev as he was doing so. Now that Byrd is out stating he thinks the judges screwed it up, I can only guess he was laughing with Ward and telling him he got an early Christmas present.
Credit to him for saying this. I wish he would have done more to prevent the wrestling match in the fight, but I give Byrd props for having the courage to speak the truth in a way that will likely cause some backlash to him.
Good for Byrd. This content is protected Although a rightful point or two being deducted could have remedied that you old fart.
He dominated the first few rounds, then to a lesser extent the next few rounds, and then the next few rounds were pickem rounds, then he won at least 2 of the final 3. But if you use round 2 as the yardstick for every other round, then Kovalev wasn't able to continue the same level of dominance; but he still dominated. Once again for the Ward / Floyd fanboys, and I'd say that set of people is almost identical, a jab is not equivalent to a power punch. Hitting whilst clinching is not considered a scoring shot. Elbows and headbutts are illegal and should result in point deductions. Repeated clinching can and should (for the sake of boxing) result in point deductions or disqualification. Running away then jabbing and clinching is not effective aggression. The champion who showed effective aggression throughout the fight, landing more powershots and doing significantly more damage had his belts taken away. That is unjust and is not a way to promote boxing. Imagine how many potentially new boxing fans saw the fight and the result, then laughed and will never watch boxing again.
