Nah, Ortiz deserves his props for the heart he showed in the fight, he was in a position where he could quit and he didnt take it, he fought back and knocked Berto down in the same round.

 

Pure pressure? Dude, Victor performed well but it was hardly like watching Chavez at work. He kept working, but it was more that Berto just didn't want to know. Victor played a part in that, but it's not like Berto was still coming back at him.

 

So you wouldnt call what Ortiz did pressure?:think

Your blowing what i said out of proportion, I made no reference to it being a particularly skilled or spectacular performance, but he did beat Berto with his agression and pressure.

the main reason Berto wasnt throwing back was because he was being hurt and outfought by Ortiz.

thats irrelevant to my point, anyways Berto never fought any big fights at welterweight but I wouldnt call him a fraud. Collazo and Quintana were decent scalps for him at the weight, and he was signed to fight Shane Mosley before the Haiti earthquake forced him to pull out. So its not like he wasnt prepared to fight any good fighters at all.

I would accept that as legit excuse, whos else can say otherwise? He hardly knew the ****ing earthquake was going to happen a couple of weeks before his fight with Mosley did he? If he was going to pull out anyways for any old reason why leave it till two weeks before a big fight, where the tickets would already have been sold and his credibility damaged by a lame excuse?

I scored the Berto-Collazo 114-113 for Berto, and it was hardly a robbery even if you felt Collazo pulled it off.

 

So are you saying he would have through with the fight had the Earthquake not happened, or that he was ready to make some lamet excuse up anyways, and the earthqauke saved him the trouble of doing that?:think

I'm more inclined to believe what Garcia/Rios say on the matter than Ortiz, who always comes across to me as having a personality disorder.

One minute he's the slimy primadonna with a smile on his face talking about money and how he's the kingmaker..... the next he's trying to be a badass.

And failing miserably at both - I mean..... surrendering against Maidana when all he was being hit with was wild right hands with a postage stamp on them.... and then the lack of desire to close the show against Peterson. He's really not all that.

Ortiz did redeem himself against Berto though. That said, I see dftaylor point about Berto. He didn't take it to him in the way Maidana did. He looked like his talk was empty half way through the fight.
