    Folks,

Since Robert Helenius is hot to trot right now since parking faded, but motivated Sergei Liakhovich inside 9 rds, I decided to test the European / British waters and pit him in a dream fight against a 1973 Joe Bugner.....

Myself, I've only seen glimpses and pieces of both fighters as both guys unfolded in their peak days as ringers.... Bugner has long been well cooked; Helenius is shining in '11.....

Still, question, is Helenius in 2011 better than a 1973 Bugner......?????

    Who knows????

Helenius by knockout!!! Helenius is much better than he looks, he knows what he is doing in the ring, great amateur experience and huge power, Bugner was good boxer, but had zero power...........

Very possible, Farmer....... BUT! Bugner had a good jawbone in the 70s...

I think Helenius easily. You don't even need to have a style breakdown here- Helenius, despite limitations, finds his opening and wins. Bugner was a guy who despite talent, basically found ways to loose.

It is an interesting comparison, because the Euros were lightly regarded in the old days whereas they are the class of the diviison now. But its just the difference between a winner and a loser.

I think Bugner looked more so a better boxer with skills in '73 over Helenius of today, but Helenius seems to be getting his work done in impressive manner over the last year....

Odd, but as off-key and shallow the division has gotten in Y2K times, Helenius at under 20 pro fights is actually a solid top-10 contender right now....

I think the better question is, could Helenius knock out Tex Cobb. I think Cobbs non existent defense is a potential disaster, nobody can take shots from Helenius all night long.

I don't know too much about either fighter, but I imagine there's a size difference that could come into play. Today's heavies are damn big compared to yesterday's lot who were perhaps more skilled.

Off topic here, but I need a copy of Cobb's KO loss to Dee Collier..... That was on ESPN around 1985, but I was working and failed to set-up my VCR...

Is Helenius ready or better than Fury in '11?

Bugner by lopsided decision. Frazier couldn't catch him and stop him. Helenius is much slower than Smoking Joe, and a lot less active.
