I have been following the career of Robert Helenius and I like the fact that he is about 6 foot 6 and a half inches, he can punch hard and that he has a fairly decent defense.

I would like to put this out there now and say that if any heavyweight at the moment can challenge one of the Klits with maybe one or 2 more fights under his belt it might be this guy.

I think he might need a few more fights against some lively opposition but so far he seems to be coming on very well.

Does anybody feel that this guy could emerge as some form of challenge in the future for the Klitschko brothers?

He strikes me as being that wild card fighter where he will go in as a severe underdog and end up scoring a corrie sanders type upset.

Hagen Döring: Helenius can beat Klitschko

For years, Russian Alexander Povetkin emerged as a logical challenger for Klitschko brothers. But he dropped last year, a fight against Wladimir Klitschko, and now it seems that Team Sauerland rates on Povetkins Finnish stable mate Robert Helenius as the man who can topple a Klitschko of the stick.

"Robert Helenius will now be able to beat both Klitschko brothers," said Sauerland sports director Hagen Döring to the Berliner Zeitung.

He is backed by promoter Kalle Sauerland.

"Robert may be the new king of the heavyweight," said Sauerland.

Robert Helenius, the 27th August meeting former WBO champion Sergey Lyakhovic. Then it is planned that Helenius must challenge Alexander Dimitrenko the EM title, and then hope Sauerland that he is ready to meet one of the Klitschko brothers in 2012.

Another Berlin newspaper, Berliner Kurier, have listed a number of names that the newspaper believes will have a chance to beat one of the Klitschko brothers. They include Rocky Balboa, Bud Spencer, Obelix, Panda Ninja and Chuck Norris.

Nah. Whatever Helenius does Wlad does it 10 times better. There's a huge gap in stills and his style is good for ending up on Wlad's fast jab and ultimately knocked out by a Wlad left hook or straight right.

I´m rooting for Helenius big time, so this is completely biased.

I believe that if he keeps on developing like he has fight by fight this, that there is a smallish chance (10-15% at the moment) for him to get a KO win over Wlad. On points? Never.

He has destructive power in his punches, seeks the spots well (of course it´s different thing to hit the sitting bull Peter than Wlad), remains calm in the ring.

His trainer - Ulli Wegner - has said that Robbe is in a world title fight in 2012. I sure hope that he will be.

What I´m afraid of is his kind of slow movement in the ring, which gives you a feeling that he probably won´t catch Wlad at all.

In any case, I hope that he challenges a Klitschko. Preferably Vitali, because then it would be a real war (I hope).

In my opinion Robert isn't ready yet. He definitely needs couple of more fights. He also needs to train properly. Top athlete shouldn't have that much fat.

I would love to see Manny Steward dump Fury & train Helenius instead.

I think Helenius has a chance, but only with a come from behind KO/lucky punch... Technically he will be totally outboxed by Waldo.

I guess he has about the same chance Haye had overall.

Against Helenius, Wladimir would be a new situation where he would be a smaller and owns inferior dimension. Also, Helenius own's very good chin and good variation of punches. If he gets Wladimir on the ropes fights is over very quickly

If the fights goes on points clearly winner is Klitschko

i wana see wlad win a fight on skill alone,i want him to fight someone where he has no height, reach or weight advantage.

    helanius.
    price.
    fury.

fighters like these would show us wlads pure talent without his physical frame being used to win.

he might be. hes a little slow but he hits damm hard. Hes taking out the faded veterans and gatekeepers out pretty well so defo ready for a step up to the elite of which thier arent that many. Hes height gives him an advantage and im pretty sure his chin is solid.
Id favour either of klits over him at the mo but i think id favour him over Haye based on his height and reach

Helenius was LOSING to Peter before he got the KO. And this was a 260lb Peter, not the 240lb version Wladimir fought.

Anyone who is being outboxed by a 260lb Peter, is NOT going to challenge Wlad or Vitali. It's not happening.

He was certainly not losing, but led by a few points. Sure, his hit quantity was quite low

I've never watched this guy, he's not like King Arthur is he?
