Kupihea cranks her right jab on the way in, and Braekhus pops her with a 1-2 lying in wait. Soft flurries from Kupihea coming forward, getting blocked. Clinch. Right by Braekhus. Darting back and forth, Braekhus works the right hand lead repeatedly to head and body. Kupihea is backing up to the ropes and then launching big overhand lefts to avoid getting cornered. Slow last minute.

Round 9

Clubbing left hook up high by Braekhus. Clinch. Kupihea tries to flop some short uppercuts into Braekhus' ribs in the clinch but can't get much leverage. Horribly slow and arm-weary right hook by Kupihea, almost spinning herself around as Braekhus just stands off and watches from a couple of feet away. Overhand left by Kupihea gets nowhere close, and Braekhus tries to counter her with a long left hook. Kupihea leans in and ties up. Kupihea is poopihea'ed. Braekhus backs her up with a right.

90-81 Braekhus

 

Round 10

Left hooks and looping rights by Braekhus, slamming away. Kupihea is flopping like a fish. Braekhus just times her flopping in either direction with a hard shot coming from that same side. Straight shots in between as well, and some uppercuts. Mostly it's the hard hooks doing the damage. Daniel Van Der Wilde steps in and waves it off. TKO!!!

 

Well, KK wasn't top 2 p4p (probably not even top 20). Maybe not even top 2 at light middleweight.

Plucky gal, though. Lots of heart. She was one of the best challengers available, because women's boxing isn't very deep - but she's nowhere near top p4p material. This was always a mismatch, on paper and in practice as we just now saw.

Braekhus is the talented one here, and honestly this is as close to headlining as a woman gets on a card that also features internationally known names like Povetkin & Helenius.
