Round 2

Mayer is jabbing at the head, overreaching as Larios falls back against the ropes, baiting her. Larios straightens up with a left hook and grazes Mayer a few times, giving her pause about rushing in when Larios is laid against the ropes. Larios just feinting with the jab now, luring Mayer in and bashing her with drawn-back catapult rights up top or counter left hooks as Mayer is trying to probe in with a 1-2.

Round 3

Mayer is extending the jab, unfurling it from a vast distance and wrenching her right shoulder from its socket hurling the cross after the mobile Larios. A few light swipes at the waist by Mayer with a wavy left hook. Larios just circling away, blocking when Mayer gets close. 1-2-3 attempt by Mayer but Larios ducks against the ropes and shells up. Counter right hand by Larios at the bell, partly breaking through Mayer's guard, but not landing cleanly and wouldn't be enough to counteract 90 seconds of inactivity offensively anyway.

Round 4

Mayer is descending into Larios' chin with the jab, starting up by her own (she's much taller), but the challenger is keeping that chin tucked into her chest, and pulling away to dodge. Larios slicing a path with a machete jab down the middle, and then hooking off the jab once inside. Mayer is pushing her jab past Larios' head and stutter-stepping her lead left foot before anchoring it. Body shots by Larios. Short left hook by Mayer rocks Larios off-balance, but she isn't hurt. They both flurry and miss at the bell.

Round 5

Mayer is pushing the jab up top, doubling it, paddling it off the face with her legs splayed into a halfway split. Larios is peppering the midsection of Mayer with underhanded body combos, ducking under the jab as best she can. Mayer is missing hooks over the head as Larios ducks in and rips the body with hooks. Larios is visibly tired but still the one setting the pace, and even grappling with Mayer when they come together in occasional awkward clinches, ragdolling the bigger woman. Larios whipping out left hooks at random from different angles, often clipping Mayer unseen.

Al Mitchell sounds a little worried in Mayer's corner. "You're standing a little too straight up. Start doing more of the kind of things we usually work on... Use time & space..."

 

Curiously, in the other corner Óscar is telling his daughter that she needs a KO...and, touchingly, saying he believes in her and that she can do it, just has to hang in there and wait for the right moment..

 

Round 6

Mayer is pushing Larios across the ring, lumpy jabs nudging her into a corner. Larios is hesitating a beat too long, opening up with some hooks and line drive rights but only after Mayer has poked her in the belly with a jab and pulled outside again. Mayer is starting to skewer Larios with the low right hand at will, and now tagging her with jabs and dropped-in rights on the brow from a safe distance as well.

Round 7

Mayer comes out hyper aggressive, slamming down with big right hands. Very little technical finesse here, Mayer just looking to steamroll Larios. The smaller woman is bouncing at the knees, strafing along the ropes and countering desperately with slashing hooks and underhanded body shots when not in a tight shell. Mayer keeps atop her, bashing down with rights & lefts on the challenger's orbital bones, freezing her up a few times. HUGE flush straight right hand by Mayer before the bell. Larios very brave, not even taking a voluntary step backwards.

Chololo giving his baby girl every chance in there, you can tell he is worried but he is respecting her will to continue until she feels she can't anymore. He warns her the ref might take it away from her if she doesn't up her work rate.

Round 8

Mayer is crashing into Larios' skull with the right hand, again and again. Nothing artful about it, just clubbing her like a baby seal. Larios is, creditably, still hunkering down and ripping shots into Mayer's abdomen with both hands while leaned forth, but Mayer is able to prod her into retreat with the jab between her teeth and then cudgel her with that right hand in multiples, even as Larios desperately resists being pushed against the ropes, shoving back at Mayer, counter-punching until the final bell.
