Why was the disabled child deposited in the ring, though? His kid, or, did he donate part of his purse to a charity or something?

 

Robert Marek Parzęczewski vs. Şahan Aybay, 10 rounds @ super middleweight

 

This is for the vacant Republic of Poland international super middleweight title.

If you're wondering why Aybay, a German born boxer of Turkish descent, is eligible to compete for such a prize - he moved to Poland a couple of years ago, now living & training in and professionally based there (signed w/ Tymex Promotions).

 

...then again, Parzęczewski previously wore this championship, and his reign began by knocking out Dmitrii Chudinov, a Russian, with a single defense by UD versus Patrick Mendy, a UK based Gambian. So go figure.

 

10-9 Parzęczewski, jabbing down the middle as the much shorter Aybay slings overhands up at him from both sides, caught on the outer arms as Parzęczewski wing-flaps them accordingly.

 

Aybay throwing all power shots, but facing a literal uphill climb as this height differential is just ridiculous. The highest drama is when they clasp together and spin and nearly tumble in a heap from each other's weight & momentum. Parzęczewski boxing tall, dropping jabs into Aybay's face, and getting swung at with heavy chops and uppercuts, but neither landing anything very cleanly.

Parzęczewski gets a knockdown! Looked like maybe a left hook downstairs, delayed reaction. Aybay rides the count, catching his wind. Parzęczewski now looming over him, jabbing aggressively, turning his chin with it. Aybay has his gum shield knocked from his mouth. Ref calls time and scoops it off the mat and has it replaced. Still about ninety seconds remaining. Parzęczewski zaps him with some more stiff jabs and Aybay spits the mouthpiece again. The ref is furious, Aybay shrugging apologetically. Time in, they rumble up close, Parzęczewski jacking Aybay's jaw around with a short uppercut. Aybay going on tiptoe and ripping big right hooks at the head, but Parzęczewski simply yanking his chin away standing to full height without needing a backward step and still plugging Aybay with short-range counters.

Gonna be perfectly honest here: I don't understand either of Parzęczewski's nicknames. "Arab" and "Mr. KO". He is a pasty-white Pole, doubt he has a drop of foreign blood in him. And he only has 16 stoppages in 28 bouts...which ain't terrible, but, he's no murderous puncher obviously.

So,

Another knockdown from Parzęczewski, first nearly toppling Aybay with an uppercut and left hook combo that sends him reeling and snatches the gum shield halfway out, with Aybay reaching up to fix it but then making a conscious decision to go to a knee with it still wedged diagonally between his teeth. He shoves it back in while the ref counts in his face, then gets up.

Parzęczewski saws into the side of Aybay's neck with a jab, not landing with his knuckle pads, just mushing his wrist into him and pushing him onto the canvas. The ref bizarrely gives him another count. Upon resuming, Parzęczewski again pumps out a slow jab and leaves it extended to push the legless Aybay down to his knees once more. Just before the bell is about to ring, ref starts a count on Aybay - all he has to do to see a 6th is stand, and it'll be a 10-6 round (putting him in a 50-41 hole) but he'll get the automatic stool break at least. He doesn't, at least not quickly enough for the ref's liking.

KO6!!

 

Well, he got the job done, didn't lose a round, and closed the show, with four official knockdowns (two being complete BS as they were clear push-downs, but whatever) - but somehow, the performance felt lacking and unsatisfying against an opponent giving up an officially listed 4" in height and 6½" in reach, and bringing in very amateurish skills.

 

Neither the best nor worst Polska boks gala I've seen.

 

...not a flawless showing defensively, either, as Aybay got in enough looping lefts to tear open a cut by the corner of Parzęczewski's right eye.
