What’s the Classic forums thoughts on Robert Quiroga? He was San Antonio’s first world champion when he won the IBF Super Flyweight title. During his title defense run he fought and defeated Kid Akeem in an absolute brutal war and he would defend it a few times before losing it to Julio Cesar Borboa in another grueling affair where his time as a top fighter would ultimately end as he would lose once more after against Ancee Gideon before retiring for good. A very crowd pleasing pressure fighter with a lot of heart. He would tragically lose his life in 2004 when he was stabbed to death over a dispute. Some of his available fights on YouTube. Would like to see video footage of Quiroga’s fights with Joey Olivo and Ray Medel. I only know he was half of the 1991 FOTY along with Kid Akeem who had more takent perhaps but ultimaltey Quiroga beat him. Sadly both guys passsed away young,Kid Akeem at 26 in weird circumstances since no one really knew of him, just rumours and Quiroga stabbed to death over a Scarface poster at age 34. Sad stuff man.
Tough pressure fighter, great stamina and workrate. Kid Akeem fight was a classic, the undefeated Nigerian was a terrific fighter with great skills. Unlucky he was facing Quiroga at his finest. Oddly enough, he won his title from classy Columbian, Juan Polo Perez (good fighter who unfortunately turned into a journeyman) in England of all places in a good fight. This content is protected
