Khomitsky is trying to give Stieglitz a taste of his own medicine, showing a jab, pulling it, and firing again while jumping in to clasp onto Stieglitz and there get off as many body taps as he can before the break. Stieglitz is looking uncomfortable with the jab-and-grab now entering two-player mode, so he circles away working the left hand prodigiously, long jabs and hooks on the backfoot, swatting air. Khomitsky pressures with jabs from his chest up above Stieglitz's eye, not quite reaching. Light scraping body shots by Khomitsky jumping in. Stieglitz backs him off with a perfect flush counter 1-2.

Khomitsky is sticking his jab and staying outside, making Stieglitz come forward. Lead hooks by Stieglitz, mostly falling short. Body hook by Khomitsky jumping into a clinch. Stieglitz is jittery, darting in and splaying his legs, having to hop to settle and fix his footing. Flush counter left hook on the cheek by Khomitsky as they jump into another clinch.

Nearly every Tweet about this fight by Germans that I've translated has been highly critical of both Stieglitz for his performance and the commentators including Schulz for their biased misrepresentation (apparently they have been acting like Stieglitz has been in command)

 

Round 9

They rush together in a clinch, Stieglitz burying his face in Khomitsky's chest and getting clobbered with a right behind the head. Khomitsky is cut on the forehead! Unclear whether a clash or punch. They check him in the corner. Bleeding pretty bad. Replay shows it was probably the result of a butt. Time in. Another clinch initiated by Stieglitz, billy-goating a bit. Dirty SOB. Stieglitz is landing single grazing jabs on the cheek and left hooks on the body jumping in and out, either tying up or retreating from the pocket after connecting. Double hook by Stieglitz on the outside; the crowd likes it. Stieglitz down stepping away from Khomitsky as the latter gets in a body hook, ruled a slip.

Had that been ruled a knockdown for Khomitsky at the end of the ninth that would've been (or rather, should've been) a dagger in his favor on the scorecards.

Instead, Stieglitz was able to ugly his way into making it very close now.

Khomitsky is held up before the action can begin. They have a look at the nasty gash on his dome, and fix tape on his glove again. The ref suddenly waves the contest off. :?

Yeah, it was about the same.

 

I still have no idea what is happening.

Khomitsky looks pretty upset.

 

Yeah, somehow they ruled it a TKO10 for Stieglitz. :-(

 

Khomitsky is livid, fuming and barely containing himself but still goes over to shake hands and congratulate Stiegltiz, then quietly leaves the ring as media swarms in to interview the new WBO Intercontinental 168lb champ.

Class act, Ghost. Hold your head up. You came and did what you could, and this came down to external forces beyond your control.
