You're on the money here World Traveler Man... All of the butthurt is completely without foundation. The best case scenario for Romeo is a draw there's no possible way any honest person could give that fight to Romeo. Rogan and co. were terrible as usual.
1 - dominant Whittaker round
2 - dominant Whittaker round
3 - Clear Romero round but Whittaker fought back and landed some good shots so nowhere near a 10-8
4 - Clear Whittaker round but hurt in the dying seconds(not enough for Romero to steal it)
5 - Dominant Romero round but is it a 10-8? Maybe. But Romero didn't ice it and just looked to hug Whittaker against the fence and hold him down. I can see why the judges didn't score it a 10-8.
48-47 Whittaker or a DRAW. End of story. and yeah Romero missed weight again, and squandered his 2nd attempt at the title. I see no reason why he deserves a 3rd shot immediately. He shouldn't be rewarded for performances that occurred in fights that he missed weight in.
There is too much being made about weight from Whittaker's perspective, and not enough from Romero's. Romero missed weight, and that is on him. However, he missed by 3 ounces! 3 ounces and was not given the time he had within the rules to lose that 3 ounces. Romero was 3 pounds, or 48 ounces off for Rockhold. That's a big difference. The scale Romero was using before heading out to the official scale could have been off by 3 ounces. GTFO with that.
Volume vs Power is a fun debate when it is presented without a clear winner. In regards to rounds, we had a clear winner in each stanza. The best way to win a fight is by stoppage, be it tko or sumbission. The next best thing is being close enough to win by stoppage.
Whittaker clearly won rounds 1 and 2, but was never near finishing the fight inside the distance in those rounds. I gave Whittaker the 4th, but he was clearly rocked at the end of the round. The 4th was an example of the volume of work outweighing the threat of being stopped that round.
Romero visibly hurt Whittaker in the 3rd, and clearly won the round. Romero nearly finished Whittaker more than once in the 5th, was never put in jeopardy, and did more volume wise. That was a 10-8 round.
It was on him to make sure after last time missing so badly to get his **** together and he didn't,he shouldn't even have been given this shot straight away after how much he missed by against Rockhold making no effort to try and cut any weight given himself a massive advantage.
The amount of weight he missed by in this fight becomes irrelevant because of the last fight and the fact is he has ****ed up twice in a row as a headline fighter trying to gain advantage any way he can as seems to be his way and shouldn't be trusted again for while till he can prove he can make weight.
How's this for perspective. He's 0-2 against Whittaker and the latter doesn't want or have to face him again. "Romero's perspective." means **** all. If he wants another shot he's going to have to earn it. Not sure what you're yapping about him not getting time to make the weight. He was given time to make weight and failed on his second attempt and the commission had seen enough. At the end of the day it's their judgement call. Romero as evidenced by his last 2 fights is clearly having problems(intentional or otherwise) making 185. He shouldn't be rewarded for that. There's been a major problem with weight lately(look at the win/loss ratio for fights involving fighters that have missed weight this year) So **** Roidmeros perspective.
So badly? Romero had never missed weight before his last bout, ever. He misses by 3 pounds and now he's Johnny Hendricks?
He still had time to lose the 3 ounces he was off against Whittaker, and was not allowed to take it. Even Bisping thought he should have been given the chance.
Romero should be 0-1-1, and he is the only one that was ever close to finishing inside the distance.
Time to make weight isn't important? It's not like the UFC is going to make the weigh ins go back to 4:00 or anything. Oh, wait...they are

I could easily see how you and others could score the 5th round 10-8 Romero which would have made it a draw but in general I think people get to carried away with 1 knocked down or 1 TD somehow overcoming 4-5minutes of the other guy easily winning the round, this isn't boxing where a knockdown automatically gets you a 10-8 round.
Whitaker dominated those early rounds and the damage showed on Romeros face after the fight he was in much worse shape then Whitaker apart from his broken hand
10 rounds of fighting...Whittaker is up by a point and was the only one of the 2 close to being stopped. That's utter dominance.
Whittaker was schooling Romero before he started to brawl in the 3rd rd and got caught. Not sure why he did that... Maybe the hand was finally starting to bother him and he thought he could close the show? An unwise move regardless. Romero isn't on his level when he stays tight and keeps(mostly) in kicking range.
Your man crush is 0-2 in the series. Deal with it.
I agree with some of this. I also wish MMA used half points.
I don't agree with automatic 2 point rounds for knock downs. Evidenced by giving Whittaker the 4th. Whittaker did little to nothing in the 5th and was almost stopped twice.
Your's almost got knocked out, and was never in a position to finish. Your's missed more time after the first fight, and will miss more after the second. Take those wins how you will.
Whittaker had a bad staph infection which is why the Rockhold fight was called off Sherlock, otherwise he would have been back in the ring before Romero was by a couple of weeks.
Actually, I withdraw part of that. I'm morphing actual arguments with the conspiracy opinion I have of GSP vs Bisping being forced into place. I've been drinking too much to discern the difference.
I still think Whittaker vs Romero 2 was a draw.
Romero should have been given the times within the rules to lose 3 ounces. Otherwise, why is that time allowed in the rules?
