Who cares, Romero couldnt become a champion wrestler in the Olympics And now he couldnt become the UFC champ. Even with roids he still falls short. Its time to move up or find another profession.
After missing weight TWICE in a row in TITLE FIGHTS he SHOULD NOT be given another immediate title fight. He should be made to fight and beat a top 5 guy and prove he can make weight before fighting for the title again. Probably Gastelum should fight Whittaker next. Who else is possibly in line ?
I don't know that anyone was arguing that Romero deserves the next shot, but your opinion is totally reasonable. 2 cracks at Whittaker in roughly a year, and at best he earned a draw in one of them. Romero is a least one fight away from deserving a shot at a stupid interim title. Probably 2+ away from a shot at the real belt, depending on how big the win(s) and how long the champion is hurt. Jacare, Brunson or Branch should be Romero's next fight. Weidman is more interesting vs Whittaker for me, but Gastelum probably deserves the next shot.
End of the day Whittaker won a close fight with a broken thumb in the first round after beating the same guy with a busted knee in the first round in their previous fight.. MMA isn't boxing and a knock down isn't really worth as much if you can't finish the one you knocked down. Pretty much the same as a take down tbh so would anyone score a 10-8 round based on two take downs? Not sure why people are defending this weight bully who now in his 40's is showing that it is getting too hard to cut like he could when younger.. The commission saw a fighter who possibly could have died by trying to dehydrate the extra weight off so they pulled the pin... Fair enough too..
I agree totally the commission decided that it was unsafe for Romero to cut any more weight and having done it before trying to cut 3 ounces or whatever isn't as easy as it may sound especially after already having to cut hard to get that close. Agree also about the scoring rounds 10-8 and said pretty much the same thing
Nah. Just stop that nonsense. He were clearly in a much worse condition than Whittaker, much harder weight cut. Missed by 0,3lb. How can that ever be an advantage? If anything it is advantage Whittaker.
You are seeing, what you want to see aren't you? Romero takes rounds of on purpose. He did the same thing vs Rockhold. In the first fight with Whittaker, he came out strong and gassed himself in the first two rounds. This time Whittaker clearly did way more and used more energy in the first two rounds. When Romero explodes he is dangerous for anyone - and Whittaker isn't this all time great talent, who can't get caught. Both fights shows that these two are very evenly matched. You can't just keep Romero at distance, he will explode - and so far Whittaker in the first fight is really the only one to withstand it. He got caught not only once, but three times in the second fight, dropped twice and hurt badly. It isn't like Whittaker is levels above Romero and are able to toy with him for five rounds, like you seems to think. It wasn't Whittakers mistake, Romero is just that good.
Yeah Romero let himself get dissected in the first two rounds with one eye nearly swollen shut. He was completely outclassed in those rounds, that's what happened not me wanting to see something else.
The swollen eye was a freak accident. He wasn't hurt at any point, and clearly weren't doing anything to prevent Whittaker winning and dominating the rounds. Took the first two rounds off on purpose clearly.
Talk about being a hypocrite lol,it's clearly you that sees what you want to see and judging by your other posts and overall horrible analysis here that you obviously do not understand what your looking at or know what your talking about.
Lol. It's the typical Romero style. Taking rounds off. With Weidman he did nothing the entire first round, with Rockhold he did nothing the first two rounds besides one or two quick attacks - the same in this fight. The only difference is the output from Whittaker were way higher than the output from Rockhold. Romero fought the exact same fight. I like Whittaker, but all this bias and **** towards Romero is just ridiculous. No, please stop this nonsense ffs. You can't just make up your own rules. A knockdown is ofc way more significant than a takedown. "Judges must CONSIDER giving the score of 10-8 when a fighter IMPACTS their opponent significantly in a round even though they do not dominate the action." Three criterias DAMAGE, DOMINANCE and DURATION - in that order. A knockdown = high damage, a takedown isn't even dominance, if you aren't able to control the opponent afterwards. So no two takedowns isn't even close to equal a knock down. Romero in the fifth round did MUCH damage by dropping and hurting Whittaker badly, he dominated him by majority of the round. DAMAGE, DOMINANCE and DURATION, all three factors were clearly in play in the fifth round. After the new scoring rules it was a clear a 10-8 round as they gets.
Oh, you agree on those selfmade rules, that perfectly fits the result you wanted? Im in shock. Learn the rules for a start. Because that isn't how to score a 10-8 round in the UFC. The commission didn't decide it was unsafe for Romero. They just didn't gave him the time granted. He was cleared medically to make the cut down to 185lb.
Crooked Illinois commission cut his weight cut short. That being said. He has to do something about that horrible cardio. He hasn't had a fight in years where he had a good offensive output. He's been coasting, and looking for a spot to explode. It loses him rounds, because he gets outworked repeatedly. Yes his defense is top notch and he blocks much of it, but he isn't winning any points for blocking. Close fight. I could have dealt with a draw. If his cardio wasn't so bad, he'd have won both fights. Getting outworked for most of the round and then hurting a guy in the 30 seconds win you a five minute round? Having a guy hurt badly, but then gassing out, and getting hit a few times in return win you a 10-8 round?
