Roberto Duràn vs Edwin Rosario

Against Duran it'll be an even worse thrashing for Rosario compared to what Chavez did, and that was already a bad beating.

 

Honestly, I think Rosario would last the distance, he had a chin made of a type of metal I don't know. Duran didn't cut off the ring as well as Chavez, who never gave Rosario the room to get leverage on his shots. Duran would still walk him down and beat him up but he was more methodical and technical (especially early in a fight) than Chavez was imo, so wouldn't be all up in Rosario's grill as much as Chavez was from the opening bell, if Rosario can get going for even a couple rounds he could get Duran's respect for a while before getting beaten badly.

 

Love both of these fighters but Duran needs to be a very heavy favorite here. Nothing against Edwin Rosario. He had a lot of heart, plenty of power and was fun to watch. But Duran is a few levels above him.

 

The way to beat Rosario was to crowd him.

Duran would, well...............he'd crowd him.

 

Rosario, a favorite of mine, has never been known as having any sort of metal chin. It was pretty good in his youth but never granite by any stretch. Granted he took a great amount of sustained punishment off Chavez before succumbing but this was a bit of an anomaly.

Lightweight Duran didn't cut the ring off as well as Chavez?

I'd agree Duran probably wouldn't smother him as much as Chavez did but he wouldn't try and and didn't need to. Chavez being up in Rosario's grill also smothered the power of his own punches somewhat, whereas Duran would also be landing from the outside with full leverage and length.

It wouldn't totally shock me if Rosario's power sat Duran down for a flash KD early but i reckon Duran would stop him at some point.

 

Duran would stop him in 9-11R

 

Rosario's chin is legendary.

But there is no way he beats Duran.

I once thought Rosario had a weak chin too and posted this on a website, I was corrected!!

 

His stoppage losses were while he was standing on his feet. He never once hit the canvas. His problem was not having great recuperative ability when he got badly hurt.

 

This. I too always found it kind of remarkable that he could be stopped but never dropped. But as you say, once he was hurt, he was done. No recuperative powers at all, and wasn't great at clinching. I think those hindrances speak to chin quality as much as how many times you go down.
