This is a match I thought nobody ever point out or talked about(from what I've seen) and it's interesting enough, both are skilled boxer puncher while tilting to oke of their aspects more, Duràn was more of the pressure fighter/puncher, Brown was more of a boxer. Who wins?
Hi Buddy. Firstly, nice to see you have hit the ground running, and settled in to the forum nicely, have been enjoying your posts and replies, they show a keen awareness of boxing and boxers, well done, as to the fantasy match up, I would have my house on a Duran victory not sure about the outcome, ie: points/ or KO, Brown was a durable and seasoned fighter, fought in a very active and good era, gun to my head I would favour Duran to stop him late in a 15 rounder, on Duran as a fighter, aside from Leonard and maybe Gans, I don't think any LW would have the beating of him some, Ross, Armstrong, Ortiz, maybe Nelson, would give him a torrid time, but beat him I don't think so. You are not to know this , but back in the very early 70s Duran was really not known as a skilled fighter, hard to believe now 50 years on granted, but when he won the title against the accomplished Buchanan, and for the unsung 2/3 years, he was viewed as a wild man, a slugger ( don't overly like that word ) very much in the Ketchell , Nelson, Wolgast mold, a fighter who just mowed down opponents, devoid of skill, nuance, a threshing machine, and to certain extent he was, but as the years went by he evolved into a intelligent, crafty, fighter with a arsenal of surtitles, sure he still walked opponents down, but he did so with science, a slight feint, a quick head adjust, show a right, only to land with a left, the Duran of the Lampkin fight was a terrifying and formidable LW, he had let his hair grow ( as was the parlance at the time ) and supplemented that with a shaggy beard, add that to his dark continence, coal black eyes, you have a fighter that exuded violence, and well his opponents knew, I didn't really appreciate him at the time like a lot of things in life, but I sure do now, sorry if I rambled on to long. stay safe FT, keep your excellent posts coming, chat soon.
Other than what my parents and my close friends gave me,this is the best compliment I received, thanks! And about Duràn... you had a nice view of him, although I do think the Lampkin version of him was probably his weakest form as a lightweight? Why? He simply just looked that drained, and I think he do looks a bit more sluggish than his other lightweight bout,he messed up his weight there...
My take on this is Duràn winning either a decision or a stoppage, Brown losses, from what I see and I remember 6 was pure KO and 3 were TKO, he's quite good to rack up a ton of fights under his record, but 6 KO losses... Did prove his chin could crack at times, Duràn can pull this off despite the fact this would probably look like Duràn vs Viruet III(if it actually happens )
