Duran also dominated Guts Ishimatsu, Edwin Viruet, Vilomar Fernandez, Ray Lampkin and Hector Thompson which isn't too shabby in and of itself. A modern day splinter titleist would be highly acclaimed by both fans and the media imo if he had a dominant run against good but not not great comp like that, nevermind dethroning a great champion in dominant fashion and coming out on top in a trilogy with another great fighter too, also in dominant fashion.

In that case do Camacho and Pazienza also get any credit for beating Duran as well? After all while not quite as old as Duran, they too were far past their prime when they fought Duran and were possibly naturally smaller men than Duran was when they were in or near their primes?

I don't know what to make out of the Camacho and Pazienza fights. Both guys were past their prime, and Duran moreso. The fights filled time and they were fights, but not very significant since when Camacho or Pazienza stepped up to fight better guys and prime guys they lost. They did better against the older guys like Duran and Leonard. I think had Hearns fought Pazienza or Camacho it would have been a much different story. Hearns punch would have been the difference and stopped those two guys, where Duran and Leonard couldn't.

Duran had so much speed as a Lightweight. That is the Duran I will remember. He was non stop motion integrating his defense with his offense as well as it can be done. He is right on top of you and you can`t hit him clean.

he didn't fight the Pernell or Floyd level guys at that weight. No matter what. They would have hit him. Duran did great or did badly. There was usually not a middle ground in his losses. He did decent with Hagler, just because Hagler didn't fight aggressively. So Duran was hitting him with the right with Marvin fighting that counterpunching style, when he should have pressed Duran. Had they had a rematch, I think Marvin stops Duran in about 6 or 7 rounds.

And who did pernell beat with a prime Duran’s skill level? Pernell has a very questionable resume himself

Duran at lightweight and Duran in the 80s are two quite different fighters. It seems like you're judging him based solely on his latter career rather than his lightweight prime.

According to some, Duran was still prime through most of the 80's....

12 successful title defense at Lightweight including a record at the time 10 straight KOs. Overall KOd 11 of 12 challengers.

This alone gets in on the 1st ballot folks. Yea his resume is OK.

You tell me .. Duran was 44 when he fought Camacho the first time. Hector was eleven years younger .. both men started their careers with in three pounds or so of each other , Camacho 130 , Duran 133 .. Duran was 43 when he first fought Paz who was also eleven years younger. Paz was to my knowledge a lightweight when he started his career .. your thoughts ?

Any truth to the rumor that Duran was robbed in the first Camacho fight?

his lightweight prime did not involved a Floyd or Pernell. So where is the overrating coming from? Dominant yes. but Tyson was dominant also.

Duran weighed a lot less than 133... He was a bantamweight or featherweight
