The Duran of the Hagler fight v Eubank of the first Nigel Benn fight. I take Duran to win by decision. Too clever and slick for Eubank. He'd lure Chris into coming forward sometimes, and Eubank was n't too good at that.

Eubanks is the kind of guy Duran in 1983 would beat. Duran UD Eubanks. It would be close. Actually Duran would have done well with Benn. A guy Duran would have had trouble with would have been Sumbu Kalambay or Herol Graham because of the moment, but Benn after a few rounds Duran would have started to land punches.

Yep:good Duran would have needed them to come at him, i'd think he'd beat Chris & proberbly KO Nigel & possibly could pinch it against Kalambay but Graham would have been tough. It's a case of Duran's opponants losing it rather than Duran winning it with regards to Kalambay/Graham & Eubank IMO.

I reckon Kalambay would be tricky for Roberto at this point too. I agree with you about Benn. Although the post Eubank version of Nigel was a more complete fighter than the earlier gung ho incarnation,so the latter model would give Duran a tougher fight.

Eubank is a counter punching boxer, albeit 1 who makes technical errors, something his physical attributes let him get away with most the time. Maybe Duran could make him pay for this but I think his style is wrong for Duran, even Duran outboxes him for periods, that and the fact he hits like mule, is strong as a cruser with a chin of iron.

As for Benn, I'm not sure Duran would handle the ferocity and speed of Benn, this isn't a slow Barkley we're talking about. That would be a cracking fight while it lasted though

Duran handled the great (PRIME) Marvelous Marvin Hagler pretty well, so you've got to use that as the yardstick when matching up Eubank/Kalambay/Benn & Graham against Roberto. What have these 4 got that Hagler has'nt. Duran was'nt exactly slow when he fought Hagler & he was at his fully focused best & in the best shape i'd ever seen him other than Montreal. It goes without saying that everyfight is a tough fight for Duran at 32+ years of age & fighting from 154+ against natural Lt/Middle/Middle & above. It's a case of who's got the guile to outpoint Duran over 15 & not get countered to death as Marvin discovered & he was the Undisputed Middleweight Champion while the above named where mere title'ists excepting Graham who's style would have made for nightmare viewing who ever he fought...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

hagler would have struggled with all the fighters mentioned here if he fought like he did against Duran(which he won by about 5 points imo).
