Thomas Hearns well and truly showed Duran who was boss in this brief encounter.

For those who want to watch the fight online, here's a link to my Daily Motion channel:

Regardless of all the excuses made for Duran,
    sometimes it's the simplest excuse
    that's the most rational.
Hearns when looking at the totality of all his
physical advantages over Duran was simply
    all wrong for him.
Just as he was for Cuevas, and would've been
    for Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao

No version of Duran post Montreal has any chance at all, he was laying back far too much, the only chance he would have been to constantly rush to the inside and muscle him back to the ropes with that anger and ferocity. And even then hes at tremendous risk of being stopped by the jab and dropped by the right hand on the way in.

A properly prepared Duran gives him a very good fight.

The only advantage Barkley had over Hearns was a better beard.

Completely agree, no version of Duran would ever have a chance against Hearns. Just a bad, bad stylistic foil. Also agree re: Duran vs. Floyd and Manny.

Barkley was the same size. You cant compare Cuevas and Duran two different levels. This was Roberto partying it up after the Hagler fight where he made a ton of dough. Unfortunately when Duran really started making the big money he partied just like he did after the first Leonard fight and his training for Hearns was simply to make weight. Hearns to his credit came in at 100% and Duran paid the price. Bob Arum had stated in 1989 Duran would face the winner of the Leonard-Hearns rematch, but since it was a so-called draw the move was made to fight Leonard. Hearns does not repeat his performance against the Duran that fought Barkley.

    The excuses......
Styles and different attributes makes fights.
Barkley beat Hearns twice , Duran beat Barkley, but a much younger version of himself, closer to his best fighting weight got destroyed by Hearns.
Ali fought Frazier and Norton six times, three times each, every fight a struggle for him.
Foreman fought Frazier and Norton, destroyed both early, without breaking much of a sweat.
    But Ali destroyed Foreman......
Styles and certain physical attributes that worked well against one fighter, doesn't mean it works well against another. It's been proven many different times in boxing.
Just because Duran did well against Barkley doesn't mean he'd have the same success if Hearns was in the opposite corner that night.
Anytime Duran has loss, theirs the excuses .
He had to take a dump, he was out partying etc etc etc.
Personally I believe Duran was too much of a Profesional to not take a challenge as formidable as Hearns seriously. He knew what he was facing, I'm sure he acted like a true pro and got himself in the best shape possible.
He was simply overwhelmed by an opponent that we never saw before him, and haven't seen since, probably will never seen again.
In Hearns we saw A 6'1 welter/ Jr.Middle, that had the reach of a heavyweight, the speed of a lightweight, and power of a Lt.heavy. And also add top notch skill level.
Theirs no shame in losing to an opponent that has every physical advantage a boxer could have over Duran.

Except that everyone around him in camp said he didnt take Hearns seriously. Why? For one thing Duran had beaten Leonard who stopped Hearns in their fight, Second Hearns had looked like nothing special since his his comeback fights after the Leonard loss. Again Duran was a partier and also had loads of machismo and simply figured Hearns couldnt beat him, he paid for his error in judgement.
